Are you like me and want to use the Klir fleece filter but don’t have a sump with Traditional 4 or 7in filter sock trays? If so stay tuned.
It is very frustrating when a revolutionary product like the Klir filter becomes available only to find out that it does not work with your current sump.
It is easy to think that the only option you have is to upgrade your current sump to something a little more traditional like the IceCap Reef Sumps. Some will use the excuse to get the significant other to approve the purchase but others like myself are happy with the existing sump or upgrading is not an option.
Well, there is a second option available. The makers of the Klir filter are hobbyists themselves and know that there is no standard sump out there. And lets face it some sumps are not bound to be compatible with the Klir.
For these sumps, they have created the Klir Filter Bracket. This bracket can be placed within sumps that do not feature the traditional filter sock tray.
The Klir Filter Bracket is the perfect place to install your Klir filter and it allows you to securely attach two drain lines.
The Klir Filter Bracket is fully compatible with common overflow designs such as the Durso, Stockman, Herbie and even full-syphon overflows like the Beananimal.
The bracket features a built-in first chamber which diffuses water and air from the drain lines providing quiet water displacement into your current sump.
In addition, the bracket also includes an adjustable flow diverter allowing the user to optionally bypass excess flow or to filter less aggressively if desired.

Before we proceed with the installation of the Klir Bracket, let’s make sure that our system is fully compatible.

In addition to sump compatibility, we also need to make sure that the Klir filter and bracket can handle the flow rate going into our sumps.
The Klir Di-4 unit can handle flows up to 750 GPH while the Klir Di-7 can handle up to 1800 GPH.
IMPORTANT:
Using the incorrect Klir filter for your flow rate will result in the unit not working correctly.
Before we proceed with the assembly, let’s make sure that all components are included and nothing is missing from the box. The Klir bracket should include:
The Klir filter is not included with the Filter Bracket.
Now let’s separate the threaded connection on each of the drains. With the Drain mount bracket and the threaded tabs facing downward, insert the male threads of the short drain tube into the top of the mount bracket and thread into the female threads of the long down tube.
Once the drains are assembled, insert the drain assembly into the back compartment of the bracket and thread in the screws to lock in place.
For easy service and maintenance, the drains can be disconnected and removed from the Klir bracket at any time.
Place the Klir Bracket in the desired location in the sump with the bypass gate up and locked in place.
I would suggest testing the location to make sure the Klir filter fits and is serviceable before connecting the plumbing.
Once everything is secured in place, we can proceed to turn off the return pump.
Connect the tank drain lines to the drain pipes on the Klir bracket. The Bracket comes with PVC pipe inserts. These can be removed to use any sort of standard PVC connections.
Installation is now complete.
Now it is time to install the Klir Filter.
This video assumes that you have purchased a Klir Filter and it is fully assembled and ready to go. If you haven’t gotten there yet, don’t worry.
When inserting the Klir filter, make sure the sensor of the Klir is facing away from the drain lines and towards the clear window of the Klir Bracket. This will prevent splashing water from triggering the sensor and advancing the fleece unnecessarily.
The final step is to install the Klir filter controller. Attach the motor to the motor input on the controller and the sensor to the TS input which is located to the right of the motor input.
