Part of any reefer’s daily routine is to empty the collection cup and be certain that the protein skimmer is clean and working properly. But as the holidays approach and we spend more time visiting family and friends and less time with our reef tanks, daily maintenance can prove to be a hard thing to do.

To help reefers with this dilemma, Reef Octopus has come out with a range of skimmer accessories that are simple to install, use and very affordable.

Waste Collector

Far from a simple container to collect large volumes of skimmate, The Reef Octopus Waste Collector is a 3-in-1 device that is arguably the best accessory you can have for any protein skimmer of any brand.

Time Delay Start Up
The waste collector comes equipped with a time delay box that prevents in-sump skimmers from overflowing after a power outage as well as preventing external skimmers from running dry.  The time delay box will remain off for five minutes after power has been restored allowing the water level inside the sump to return to normal.

Automatic Shut Off
The waste collector features a float switch that will automatically shut off your skimmer when the receptacle is full.  This ensures that you never experience overflowing accidents.

Time Delay

In the event of a power outage, most sumps will fill with water that comes from the display tank as well as plumbing.  When power is restored, it takes a few minutes for the return pump to move all that water back to the display tank. If the skimmer is running during this time, it will begin to overflow due to the higher-than-normal water level.

Time Delay will prevent your skimmer from overflowing after power has been restored.

The Reef Octopus delay timer will wait five minutes to turn on the skimmer after power has been restored, allowing the sump to return to normal water levels. If you run an external skimmer, it will prevent recirculation pumps from running dry.

The Time Delay Box will delay starting the skimmer for 5 minutes after power is restored.

Neck Extensions

This stackable add-on extend the neck of Reef Octopus skimmers to achieve greater improvements in filtration and refined control. It increases contact time with dissolved organics and is an easy way to upgrade the performance of an existing Reef Octopus skimmer without having to purchase a whole new unit. 

Skimmer Stand

Having the skimmer at the correct water depth will directly affect the performance of a skimmer. If the skimmer is running too deep, then the skimmer overflows and if the skimmer is running too shallow, then the skimmer will not collect.

The Reef Octopus motorized Automatic Neck Cleaner helps keeps your reef octopus protein skimmer running at peak performance by periodically wiping the inside of the neck where all the bio-organics usually would accumulate. To operate this easy to use device, you simply plug the unit into a timer or aquarium controller and set it to run for one to two minutes four to six times per day.
