Klir Di-7 V2 Automatic Drop-In Sump Fleece Filter for Reef Sumps

The Klir Di-7 V2 Automatic Drop-In Sump Fleece Filter (SKU: CV-KLIR-DI7V2) is an authentic high-efficiency mechanical filtration system distributed by CoralVue to streamline aquarium maintenance and maintain pristine water clarity in large marine reef aquariums and freshwater ecosystems. Traditional mechanical filtration relies heavily on cloth filter socks that require messy manual pulling, bleaching, and swapping every few days. If left uncleaned, trapped fish waste, uneaten food flakes, and detritus remain submersed in the active flow path where they rapidly decay—spiking internal nitrate and phosphate levels. The Klir Di-7 V2 completely breaks this nutrient cycle by automatically rolling dirty material completely out of the water column and replacing it with a fresh, clean section of 50-micron non-woven fleece, stabilizing your water parameters for months at a time.

This upgraded Version 2 system features an overhauled electronic smart board and a magnetic-mount optical water sensor that completely eliminates the mechanical micro-switch stickiness common in older rollers. As water flows from your display tank's drain line into the core of the Klir, the dense fleece captures suspended particulate matter. As the fabric becomes saturated with waste, water flow slows down, causing the level inside your sump's sock tray compartment to rise. The moment the water touches the triple-redundant optical eyes, the heavy-duty 12V DC geared motor activates, pulling the spent fleece onto the dirty collection spool. Once clean, porous fleece is exposed, the water level instantly recedes, deactivating the motor loop. This continuous, self-monitoring system provides clear, particle-free water while drastically reducing your physical maintenance footprint.

Key Features:

  • Locks Away Dissolved Organics Safely: Exports debris out of the active water volume before it breaks down, directly preventing aggressive hair algae and cyanobacteria outbreaks.

  • V2 Anti-Slack Tension Ring System: Incorporates upgraded internal structural friction rings that prevent the fleece roll from unspooling loosely or causing bypass water gaps.

  • Ready for Advanced Smart Controllers: Natively compatible with the CoralVue HYDROS ecosystem via dedicated adapter cable kits for integrated smart home status tracking.

Note: This complete retail system contains (1) Klir Di-7 V2 unit, 6.9" & 7.25" swappable collars, a V2 smart controller, a magnetic optical sensor, (1) starter 25-yard 50-micron fleece roll, and a 12V power supply. Standalone replacement fleece rolls and custom open-sump mounting brackets are sold under separate product categories.

Technical Sump Clearance Requirements:

To ensure a successful drop-in installation without modification, your aquarium sump must meet the following structural tolerances:

  • Sock Tray Base Support: Sump must have a dedicated sock tray panel (or utilize the standalone Klir Di-7 Filter Bracket).

  • Upper Operating Clearance: Must be capable of holding at least 1.5 inches of standing water directly above the sock tray line to allow for proper sensor triggering.

  • Lower Vertical Clearance: Requires at least 8.125 inches of clear, unobstructed open space underneath the filter sock tray to house the fleece cylinder body.

  • Overhead Access Space: Demands a minimum of 7.125 inches of open sump lid clearance directly above the sock tray to allow for easy roll swaps.

Sump Requirements:

  1. Sump with a 7-inch sock tray (or use the Klir Di-7 Filter Bracket, sold separately)
  2. Minimum 1.5 inches of water depth above the sock tray
  3. At least 8.125 inches of clearance below the filter sock tray
  4. 7.125-inch opening in the sump lid directly above the filter sock position

Instructions:

  1. Turn off your main return pump to halt all water draining into your sump's mechanical filtration compartment.
  2. Remove your old, dirty 7-inch cloth filter sock from the sump. Measure your sock tray opening and press either the 6.9-inch or 7.25-inch swappable collar ring onto the throat of your Klir body to ensure a snug, level fit.
  3. Slide the assembled Klir Di-7 V2 unit directly straight down into the open 7-inch sock hole until the collar lip rests flat against the tray panel.
  4. The V2 Sensor Placement Rule: Take your magnetic-mount optical water level sensor and place it inside the sump basin. Mount it onto the glass or acrylic wall outside of the filter body itself, positioned roughly 1.5 inches above your sump sock tray line.
  5. Route the sensor and motor cables up to a dry mounting zone, plug them securely into the base sockets of the tiny V2 smart controller, make a deep drip loop on the main cord, and connect the wall transformer into a GFCI outlet.
  6. Turn your aquarium return pump back on. Observe the first automatic operating cycle: as water fills the tray and covers the optical eye, the controller will beep softly and advance a clean 2-inch patch of fleece, immediately lowering the water level.

Pro Tips:

  • Mount the V2 Optical Sensor to the Sump Wall, Not to the Roller Frame. Unlike the original Version 1 unit which attached its sensor directly to the internal frame plates, the Version 2 smart controller utilizes an independent magnetic sensor meant to mount to the sump wall. Position the sensor in the sock tray chamber roughly 1.5 inches above the tray panel line. Placing the sensor too high can cause your water line to overflow the edges of your baffle walls before triggering a roll advance, while placing it too low will cause the motor to cycle constantly and wastefully burn through your fleece roll within days.
  • Use the Optical Sensor State to Interlock Your ATO Controller Logic. Because a fleece roller naturally causes the water level inside the mechanical sock compartment to rise and fall by 1.5 to 2 inches during standard operation, it can temporarily trap water volume upstream. If your Auto Top-Off (ATO) fresh water level sensors are located in an adjacent baffle right next to the roller tray, your ATO may accidentally kick on and inject fresh RO/DI water while the fleece is clogging, causing a minor salinity drop. To prevent this, consider interlocking your ATO, or use a HYDROS Klir Adapter Kit to pause your top-off pump whenever the Klir optical sensor reads a wet state.
  • Never Attempt to Force-Turn the Dirty Roll Spool Cover by Hand. When it comes time to change out an exhausted roll (roughly every 4 to 6 weeks depending on your bioload and feeding frequency), always disconnect the power adapter and remove the motor block pin prior to pulling the spool cores. The DC geared motor utilizes high-torque internal reduction tracking lanes; trying to force the spools to spin manually while fully geared can easily strip the plastic drive teeth inside the motor housing, permanently breaking the drive system and voiding your factory warranty.
