Calcium Chloride Mixing and Dosing Instructions

IceCap Calcium Chloride is a aquarium supplement that mixes crystal clear with no unwanted impurities. Maintaining calcium within a range of 412-450ppm in reef aquaria will enable corals and other reef-building invertebrates to proliferate. For best results, use in conjunction with Reef Endurance Sodium bicarbonate or Soda Ash as a two-part balanced regimen.

Mixing Instructions

Using volume measurements (teaspoons, cups, etc.) for dry products will only yield approximate results. A gram scale should be used if available. If you don't have a gram scale, be sure to check for the correct concentration after use.

1gal RO/DI + 1 kg (1000 grams) of Calcium Chloride will create a stock solution with a calcium concentration of 95.4 g/L.

  1. Fill a one-gallon container half full of RO/DI or distilled water
  2. Add 1 kg (1000 grams) of Calcium Chloride to the container with water.
  3. Top off to the 1-gallon mark and secure the cap.
  4. Shake the solution vigorously and allow it to fully dissolve for 24 hours.

Tip: To ensure all calcium chloride dissolves, raise the water temperature to 77°F (25°C) and mix for 24 hours.

Note: As an alternative, add three tablespoons of Magnesium Chloride to help maintain magnesium levels.

Dosing Instructions:

1 mL of Calcium Chloride stock solution will raise calcium by approximately 25.2 ppm in 1 USG. Increasing calcium by more than 50 ppm per day is not recommended.

Helpful Tip: If you have issues raising your calcium levels, ensure your aquarium magnesium level is between 1200 and 1350 ppm.
