IceCap ATO EZ Automatic Top-Off System (IC-ATOEZ)
The IceCap ATO EZ Automatic Top-Off System (SKU: IC-ATOEZ) is an authentic, original factory-spec electronic water level manager distributed by CoralVue to provide fail-safe evaporation replenishment for both marine reef and freshwater aquariums. In closed aquatic environments, water evaporates constantly, leaving behind dissolved salts, minerals, and waste byproducts. In marine setups, this leads to rapid salinity spikes that stress delicate corals and fish, while simultaneously dropping the water line inside the return chamber of your sump, risking pump burnouts. The IC-ATOEZ bypasses manual top-offs by continuously monitoring the water line and automatically pumping fresh reverse osmosis (RO) water back into the system.
Unlike older automatic top-offs that rely on mechanical float valves—which frequently bind up due to calcium deposits, salt creep, or stray snails—the IceCap ATO EZ features zero moving parts. The entire sensory layout is consolidated into a tiny 3/4-inch square magnetic probe block containing three independent optical water sensors. When water levels drop below the bottom node, the device activates the included 5W brushless DC utility pump. Fresh top-off water is delivered until the middle node is satisfied. If the middle node fails to detect the rising water line, the integrated top safety sensor serves as a hardware backup, instantly cutting off power to prevent accidental display tank or sump overflows.

This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
Instructions:
- Unpack your IC-ATOEZ kit and mount the optical sensor inside your sump's return pump chamber or your aquarium display wall using the external magnet backing. Ensure the internal connection cord points straight up.
- Slide the sensor vertically until the middle "Normal" optical node aligns perfectly with your desired target system water line height.
- Connect one end of the 6.5-foot vinyl tubing to the discharge barb of the included DC refill pump, placing the pump upright at the bottom of your separate freshwater reservoir container.
- Route the water line up to your sump or aquarium rim, cutting the line to install the inline siphon breaker. Crucial: The siphon breaker must be positioned physically higher than the maximum water level of your reservoir tank to prevent accidental backward fluid siphoning.
- Secure the end of the water discharge line into the universal rim holder clip, positioning it so the exit nozzle hangs completely clear of the aquarium water line.
- Plug the pump and power cables directly into the sensor module's structural junction cords, plug the power supply into a GFCI wall outlet, and confirm the sensor glows solid blue.
Pro Tips:
- Always Position the Inline Siphon Breaker Higher Than the Reservoir Water Line. The included mechanical siphon breaker is designed to introduce a tiny pocket of air into the water line the moment the DC pump turns off, instantly snapping the water tension and stopping the flow. If you place the siphon breaker down inside your reservoir or below its maximum water line, gravity will overcome the line tension, allowing freshwater to continuously trickle into your aquarium long after the sensor turns the pump off. Always mount the breaker high up near the rim of your sump or tank.
- Wipe Down the Optical Prism Lens Every Few Weeks During Maintenance. Because optical sensors rely on an internal infrared light beam bouncing through a clear plastic prism lens to detect if it is dry or wet, organic biofilms, coralline algae, or micro-bubbles can occasionally accumulate over the sensor faceplate. If a heavy coat of slime blocks the lens, the sensor may mistake the slime for water and fail to top off. Make it a habit to quickly wipe the tip of the sensor lens clean with a soft microfiber cloth or a vinegar-soaked paper towel during your routine water changes.
- Never Place the Top-Off Discharge Line Submerged Below the Water Surface. When clamping your water line into the universal rim holder clip, ensure the tip of the hose sits at least an inch above the absolute highest water level of your sump or display tank. If the tube sits submerged beneath the surface, it creates a closed loop system. When the top-off pump shuts off, the high water level in your aquarium can reverse siphon right back into your fresh top-off reservoir container, throwing off your water parameters or causing the reservoir to overflow onto your floor.
