IceCap High-Output UV Sterilizer Replacement Retaining Input/Output Union Nut (SKU: IP-UV-RNIO)
The IceCap High-Output UV Sterilizer Replacement Retaining Input/Output Union Nut (SKU: IP-UV-RNIO) is an authentic structural OEM plumbing component distributed by CoralVue to secure reliable out-of-sump water loops. External ultraviolet filtration loops route water under significant pressure around an intense germicidal light channel to clear up green water algae, cloudy bacterial blooms, and free-swimming fish parasites. Because these systems are plumbed inline with your primary return lines or dedicated high-flow bypass manifolds, the connection points handle continuous internal pressure and vibration. Over years of seasonal maintenance tear-downs, accidental over-tightening with hand tools can fracture the internal threads, strip the tracking lanes, or split the outer wall. Replacing compromised hardware with this factory original part keeps your equipment cabinet secure and bone dry.
Engineered to meticulous manufacturing tolerances, this black polymer collar is cataloged as Part 14 in the official engineering blueprint assembly layout. Unlike non-aquarium metric plumbing fittings from home improvement stores that cause alignment headaches, the IP-UV-RNIO features a custom thread configuration optimized to match the exterior ports of your IceCap UV Vessel. It captures either the 2-inch PVC slip adapter tail (Part 13) or the tiered hose barbs to form a tight compression seal over the internal rubber gaskets. Keeping a spare nut on hand prevents system down-time during routine maintenance updates.
Key Features
Prevents Sudden Line Blowouts: Restores deep thread locking engagement across your high-pressure loop paths to eliminate localized room floods.
Enables Glueless Tool-Free Servicing: Tightens completely by hand to provide a leak-free mechanical seal without needing messy plumbing sealants or pipe tape.
Friction-Free Swivel Tracking: Rotates independently over your slip fittings, allowing you to quickly disconnect the main housing barrel for seasonal cleaning without cutting hard pipe lines.
(Note: This retail SKU contains (1) individual standalone replacement retaining union nut. Internal rubber O-rings, 2-inch PVC slip adapters, stepped barbed tails, replacement bulbs, and clear quartz sleeves are sold under separate product categories).

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.
- Shut down your central aquarium return pump or the dedicated feed line supplying your inline UV bypass loop. Close upstream and downstream ball valves to isolate the circuit, and drain the water column completely.
- Unthread the damaged or cracked quick-disconnect union nut counter-clockwise to break the plumbing connection line away from the port.
- If you are using rigid hard plumbing, cut the pipe cleanly just behind the plumbing flange tail piece to free the old collar. Pro Tip: If you are using flexible hosing, simply loosen your hose clamp and pull the barbed adapter tail out.
- Retrieve your fresh IP-UV-RNIO retaining nut and slide it onto the pipe or adapter stem, ensuring the internal female threads face forward toward the sterilizer port.
- Glue your 2-inch PVC slip adapter tail (Part 13) back onto your pipe or slide the barb tail back into your flexible hosing and secure it. Allow your solvent welds to dry completely.
- Verify that your rubber union O-ring is seated flat inside the port channel, bring the adapter tail flush against the housing, and spin your new retaining nut clockwise until hand-tight.
Pro Tips:
- Never Use Channel Locks, Pipe Wrenches, or Pliers to Tighten the Union Nut. When securing your fresh IP-UV-RNIO retaining nut onto the threaded ports of your sterilizer vessel, always tighten the connection entirely by hand. Never use metal hand tools or wrenches. The soft, specialized internal rubber O-ring is engineered to compress and form a flawless watertight seal under minimal hand force. Applying excessive mechanical torque with a tool will strip the plastic threads right off your primary housing body or crack the nut's outer wall, ruining your replacement hardware.
- Wipe the Vessel's Threaded Male Ports Clean of Salt Creep Before Installation. Whenever you disconnect your inline UV sterilizer for regular maintenance, look closely at the port threads. When water evaporates near plumbing joints, it leaves behind a hard, crusty white layer of dried salt creep. If you try to thread a new retaining nut directly over old mineral scale, the threads can bind, cross-thread, or jam before the nut can fully compress the internal gasket. Always scrub the port threads clean with a soft brush and warm fresh water before spinning the new nut into place.
- Keep an Extra Retaining Nut on Hand in Your Emergency Dry Goods Box Basket. Because your external UV sterilizer sits out-of-sump, it handles active line pressure from high-volume pumps. If a plumbing joint is accidentally kicked or strained during standard maintenance, the retaining nut absorbs the brunt of that impact to protect the main vessel body. Having a spare IP-UV-RNIO nut stashed away in your spare parts kit ensures that if a plastic fitting splits during a weekend bulb swap, you can rebuild the line immediately without being left with an inoperable filtration system.
