IceCap 40W External Inline UV Sterilizer Replacement Body Vessel (Model: IC-HOUV-40W)

The IceCap 40W External Inline UV Sterilizer Replacement Body Vessel (SKU: ROP-UV-40VSL) is the authentic structural OEM empty contact chamber designed explicitly for out-of-sump, pressurized water systems. Inline ultraviolet filtration serves as a primary biological barrier, using targeted shortwave light to scramble the DNA and RNA of free-floating hair algae cells, cloudy bacterial blooms, and microscopic parasites. Because an external sterilizer is plumbed directly into active return loops or dedicated high-pressure bypass manifolds outside of the safety of a sump basin, the integrity of its outer casing is absolute. Structural breakdown from freezing temperatures, heavy impacts during a media refresh, or stripped metric threading can cause catastrophic plumbing leaks in your equipment room. Swapping a damaged shell for this original factory vessel ensures your structural loop remains leak-free.

Unlike in-sump variants that sit partially submerged, this external body shell handles the active flow pressure from large return lines up to 3,000 GPH for freshwater clarifiers and 1,000 GPH for critical marine parasite mitigation loops. It is molded from an industrial-grade, UV-opaque black polymer that holds up to years of continuous radiation exposure without cracking or chalking. The oversized 2-inch slip ports can be glued directly to hard-plumbing setups or adapted via molded barbed union kits for flexible hosing—giving you a stable, non-restrictive pathway that clears up your display tank without adding heat or chemicals.

    Key Features

    • Eliminates Flooding Risk Outside the Sump: Restores deep structural wall integrity across your pressurized inline plumbing paths to keep cabinets dry.

    • Optimized High-Velocity Contact Channel: The inner chamber dimensions maximize water contact right against the quartz sleeve, turning back aggressive dinoflagellate and algae outbreaks.

    • Glueless, Tool-Free Upper Ballast Threads: Features heavy-duty molded threads at the throat to accept your factory compression nuts and quartz sleeve gaskets without binding.

    • (Note: This retail SKU contains (1) individual standalone empty 40W external inline UV outer body vessel shell. High-output 40W germicidal lamps, quartz glass sleeves, mounting clips, and plumbing union nuts are sold under separate product categories).

    1. Shut down your primary return pump or the dedicated feed line supplying your inline UV loop. Close any ball valves upstream and downstream to isolate the UV circuit, and completely drain the internal water column.
    2. Unthread the upper compression cap, slide your high-output 40W bulb out of the core, and carefully lay it down on a soft towel.
    3. Unthread the quartz sleeve locking collar and lift your clear glass quartz sleeve straight up and out of the old damaged vessel.
    4. Cut or unthread the 2-inch PVC pipe connections or flexible hose barbs attached to the intake and discharge ports of the spent housing.
    5. Mount your new empty ROP-UV-40VSL external body vessel onto your wall brackets or framing tracks. Plumb your incoming and outgoing lines onto the 2-inch ports using PVC cement or matching union thread collars.
    6. Re-insert your quartz sleeve with fresh, lightly lubricated seals into the new body neck. Slide your bulb back down the core, hand-tighten all retention collars, open your plumbing valves to test for leaks, and restore electrical power.

    Pro Tips:

    • Never Use Brute-Force Hand Tools to Tighten the Top Quartz Sleeve Collar. When transferring your quartz sleeve and sealing rings over to the fresh external body casing, always spin and tighten the compression nut entirely by hand. Never use heavy plumbing wrenches, channel locks, or pliers on the plastic threads. The immense force from a metal tool can instantly cross-thread the polymer mouth of the new body or crack the internal quartz glass sleeve flange, causing an active water leak directly into your dry electrical socket.
    • Always Dry-Fit Your 2-Inch PVC Connections Before Committing to Weld Glue. If you are plumbing this high-capacity external housing using rigid Schedule 40 PVC pipe, always execute a complete dry-fit layout match of all your pipes and elbows before opening your PVC cement. Once you apply purple primer and solvent cement to these thick 2-inch socket rings, the weld bonds permanently in seconds. Ensuring your alignments are square beforehand prevents structural twisting strain on the casing walls once everything is locked down.
    • Mount the Body Horizontally with the Output Facing Upward to Expel Trapped Air. If you choose to mount this external 40W housing horizontally inside your stand or filter room, always orient the plumbing so that the discharge port points straight up toward the ceiling. Running high-volume water lines through a horizontal chamber can trap a large micro-bubble air pocket along the top edge of the housing. This pocket leaves a section of your quartz sleeve dry, which will cause it to overheat and fail prematurely. Orienting the output upward forces all trapped air to purge naturally back into the display tank.
