IceCap High-Output UV Sterilizer Replacement 3-Step Hose Barb Fitting (SKU: IP-UV-BARB)
The IceCap High-Output UV Sterilizer Replacement 3-Step Hose Barb Fitting (SKU: IP-UV-BARB) is an authentic structural OEM plumbing component distributed by CoralVue to allow safe integration into flexible, soft-plumbing filtration loops. High-performance inline ultraviolet clarification systems rely on clean, uninhibited water loops to clear out stubborn green water algae spores, cloudy bacterial blooms, and microscopic waterborne parasites outside of the sump box. Because this barb adapter serves as the primary structural bridge connecting soft vinyl lines to your sterilizer body ports, its structural health is critical. Over years of operation, salt-crusting, accidental lateral impacts, or overtightening metal worm-gear clamps can cause old plastic adapter stems to split or crack under continuous line pressure. Replacing worn pieces with this factory-original tailpiece keeps your high-flow soft-hose loops secure.
Engineered to fit tight manufacturing thresholds, this specialized replacement barb is cataloged as Part 16 in the master engineering blueprint layout. The slip flange side features an exact 2-inch outer profile designed to sit flush inside your factory IceCap 2-Inch PVC Slip Adapter (Part 13) using standard PVC solvent weld cement. Once joined, the multi-tiered barb section extends outward to give soft vinyl hoses a rigid surface to clamp onto. Rather than forcing you to source complex custom industrial reducer fittings, the IP-UV-BARB provides a universal solution for standard 1/2", 3/4", or 1" vinyl hosing circuits—making it a perfect fit for hobbyists running flexible bypass loops off canister filters or standalone feed pumps.
Key Features
Eliminates Flow Restrictive Throttle Points: Features a clever step-gap design that can be quickly cut down using a standard hacksaw to completely eliminate narrow choke points when running oversized 1-inch lines.
Ensures True Leak-Free Vinyl Line Grabs: Deeply molded compression ridges bite firmly into internal vinyl hose linings to stop high-pressure hose blowouts inside the stand cabinet.
Tool-Free Modular Disconnect Action: Bonds permanently to your internal slip sockets while leaving your main quick-disconnect threaded union nuts free to swivel for stress-free housing cleanings.
(Note: This retail SKU contains (1) single standalone replacement 3-step hose barb fitting. Threaded port retaining nuts, 2-inch PVC slip adapters, internal rubber union O-rings, flexible hose clamps, and clear quartz sleeves are sold under separate product categories).

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.
Shut down your central aquarium return pump or the dedicated feed line supplying your inline UV bypass loop. Close upstream and downstream ball valves to isolate the circuit, and drain the water column completely.
Unthread the large threaded quick-disconnect union nuts counter-clockwise on the port of your UV sterilizer body to pull the spent fitting line away from the main casing.
The High-Flow Trimming Step: Determine your soft hose inner diameter. If you are using 1-inch hosing, use a standard hacksaw or sharp serrated knife to cut completely through the narrow 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch upper plastic tiers at the gap. This prevents the smaller steps from choking down your water flow.
Slide your factory threaded union nut (Part 14) onto the back of your 2-inch PVC slip adapter (Part 13) prior to gluing, then use standard PVC purple primer to clean the interior of the slip adapter socket and the exterior of the new IP-UV-BARB shoulder.
Apply a thin layer of PVC solvent cement to both primed tracks, push the barb's slip shoulder firmly into the PVC slip adapter with a quick 1/4-turn twist, and hold it steady for 15 seconds to form a permanent solvent weld.
Push your flexible vinyl tubing over the matching barb steps until it sits flush, lock it down tight using a heavy-duty plastic or marine-grade stainless steel hose clamp, check that your internal port O-ring is inside the union nut, and thread the collar clockwise back onto the housing port until hand-tight.
Pro Tips:
- Always Trim Off Unused Smaller Barb Steps to Stop Heavy Flow Choking. If you are plumbing your inline UV sterilizer using larger 3/4-inch or 1-inch flexible vinyl hosing, always saw off the smaller, narrower barb steps before installing the fitting. Leaving the narrow 1/2-inch step intact inside a 1-inch hose line creates a massive internal restriction. This restriction drastically cuts down your pump's flow volume, spikes back-pressure along your lines, and drops your total tank turnover below the parameters required to effectively neutralize waterborne parasites.
- Never Forget to Secure Every Flexible Hose Connection with a Secondary Hose Clamp. While flexible vinyl hosing can feel quite tight when pushed over the ridges of your fresh IP-UV-BARB adapter, never run your system without adding a secondary heavy-duty plastic snap-clamp or marine-grade stainless steel hose clamp over the tube. Over months of continuous operation, warm water cycles can soften vinyl hosing, causing it to expand. Without a mechanical clamp locking the tube down, the continuous pressure from high-turnover pumps can easily pop the line right off the smooth barb steps, leading to a catastrophic equipment room blowout.
- Always Solvent-Weld the Barb and the 2-Inch Slip Adapter Together Before Assembly. The slip shoulder on the base of this barb fitting is designed to be chemically welded directly inside your system's primary 2-inch PVC Slip Adapter (Part 13) using standard aquarium-safe PVC primer and solvent cement. Never attempt to simply push the barb loose into the housing connection or rely on teflon tape to hold the joint under pressure outside of your sump box. Skipping the proper solvent weld step will lead to a high-pressure line failure the second your system handles active pump flow.
