IceCap 90W High Output External Inline UV Sterilizer (SKU: IC-HOUV-90W)
The IceCap 90W High Output External Inline UV Sterilizer (SKU: IC-HOUV-90W) is an authentic, commercial-grade water management system distributed by CoralVue to promote uncompromised biosecurity and crystal-clear water profiles in massive marine displays, multi-tank coral holding systems, and large freshwater aquaculture lagoons. Unlike typical consumer-grade clarifiers, the IceCap 90W High Output system utilizes an extended mercury-vapor arc tube to flood its high-velocity contact channel with an aggressive UVC energy payload (162 μW/cm2). As water-borne dinoflagellates, cloudy bacterial blooms, and free-swimming Cryptocaryon irritans (marine ich) tomonts pass tightly against the internal quartz sleeve matrix, the concentrated light exposure instantly disrupts their reproductive structures, shattering infection tracking lines.
Plumbed directly inline, the IC-HOUV-90W handles immense flow volumes up to 12,000 GPH for freshwater clarification and 3,000 GPH for critical marine parasite mitigation loops. Its heavy-wall, UV-shielded resin body protects your eyes and surrounding equipment from radiation degradation while radically improving your system's overall Oxidation-Reduction Potential (Redox). Whether attached to a dedicated commercial central filtration loop, a high-volume bypass manifold, or a main display return run, this high-performance sterilizer provides an uncompromised biological shield without modifying structural pH lines or introducing chemical residuals into the loop.
Key Features:
Halts Nuisance Algae & Parasite Outbreaks: Provides an industrial-strength defense line against free-floating parasites, destructive viruses, and cloudy green water.
Zero Impact on Reef Chemistry: Safely decontaminates the open water column while leaving your sand, rock, and media-bound beneficial nitrifying bacteria colonies unhindered.
Heavy-Duty Electronic Ballast Logic: Driven by a steady, regulated power harness configured to supply uniform current streams, maximizing the lamp's 10,000-hour useful lifespan.
Note: This retail SKU contains (1) complete operational inline system, including the commercial body vessel, 90W bulb, quartz sleeve, electronic ballast, mounting clips, and stepped hose barbs. High-flow feed pumps and PVC solvent glues are sold under separate product categories.

Instructions:
- t your plumbing layout, accounting for the vessel's 43-inch length. Mount the structural wall brackets to your wall stud frames or heavy cabinet framework using appropriate fasteners. Clip the empty UV vessel firmly into place.
- Unbox the long clear quartz sleeve. Ensure the rubber sealing rings are positioned perfectly level with the rim. Gently slide the sleeve down the center of the vessel and thread the master compression collar cap clockwise entirely by hand until tight.
- The Essential Leak Test Step: Prior to inserting the electrical components, temporarily plumb the unit to your water source or run an active pressure test. Check all seals for 15 minutes to guarantee the dry quartz sleeve chamber remains 100% moisture-free.
- Slide the massive 90W lamp carefully out of its cardboard sleeve, holding it only by the white ceramic base with a clean cloth. Do not touch the clear glass with bare hands, as skin oils can degrade the quartz tube under high operating heat.
- Push the lamp prongs securely into the matching pin receiver on the ballast cord harness. Lower the bulb completely down the core of the dry quartz sleeve.
- Hand-tighten the upper ballast cord retainer cap to lock the wiring down. Connect your plumbing lines to the 2-inch unions, ensure your water loop is flowing continuously to expel air pockets, and plug the power cord into a GFCI-protected outlet.
Pro Tips:
- Balance Flow Speeds Precisely to Target Algae vs. Heavy Marine Parasites. To unlock maximum performance from your IC-HOUV-90W system, you must adjust your feed rate based on your target filtration goal. For water clarity and eliminating green water algae blooms on large ponds or aquariums, run a higher turnover rate matching a flow speed up to 12,000 GPH. However, if you are actively combating stubborn pathogens like marine ich (Cryptocaryon) or velvet across commercial holding facilities, you must slow the water down significantly, ensuring the flow never carbonizes past 3,000 GPH. Slower speeds maximize the UVC contact time required to tear through tough parasite walls.
- Execute an Annual Full Component Refresh to Avoid Performance Drop-Offs. While a high-output UVC lamp will continue to glow a visible blue color for multiple years, its hidden, germicidal pathogen-killing energy decays steeply after a year of continuous use. After 10,000 operating hours (roughly 12 months), the lamp's UVC output drops below functional levels. For a reliable annual maintenance baseline on high-bioload systems, always replace the 90W UV Lamp, the Quartz Glass Sleeve, and the Internal Gasket Seals at the same time. This resets your biological barrier back to factory-spec parameters and eliminates micro-fissure leakage risks.
- Never Plug in the Ballast or Look at the Lamp Face While Out of the Vessel Casing.
- WARNING: Direct exposure to shortwave ultraviolet (UVC) radiation is incredibly dangerous to human vision and bare skin. Never plug the replacement lamp into your ballast socket to check if it fires while it is sitting loose on your workbench. Looking directly at an unshielded active UV bulb can cause painful, irreversible corneal eye damage and instant skin irritation. Always ensure the lamp is fully lowered inside its opaque engineering polymer vessel with all retention tracking collars locked down tight before connecting the ballast plug to power lines.
