Maintaining pristine water clarity and low nutrient levels in large-scale marine installations requires commercial-grade organic extraction. The Reef Octopus SRO-9000EXT Light Commercial Protein Skimmer (SKU: SRO-9000EXT) is the largest external recirculating skimmer in the SRO light commercial lineup, engineered for large displays, coral farming systems, retail store setups, and public exhibits up to 3,000 gallons. Designed to operate out-of-sump, the SRO-9000EXT continuously strips dissolved organic compounds (DOCs), proteins, and fine particulates before they degrade into toxic ammonia and nitrate.
Featuring a 20-inch cell-cast acrylic body with a refined half-cone hybrid neck transition, the SRO-9000EXT reduces internal water turbulence and minimizes head pressure on the recirculation pumps. The skimmer is powered by two external Reef Octopus Bubble Blaster HY-10000s pinwheel pumps equipped with wear-resistant silicon nitride ceramic shafts and digital control circuit boards. Because it operates independently of sump water levels, it delivers consistent foam head production regardless of evaporation or sump fluctuations.

Despite its massive processing power, the SRO-9000EXT stands at a total height of 43.3 inches, making it easy to service inside spaces with restricted overhead clearance. It requires an independent feed line delivering 3,380 to 4,680 GPH of raw system water into its 1.25-inch inlet while the dual Bubble Blaster pumps continuously recirculate and aerate the water column.

WARRANTY
CoralVue, Inc. and Reef Octopus hereby guarantee this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:
- Five (5) year warranty on pump body/housing
- Three (3) year warranty on Reef Octopus-branded controller
- One (1) year warranty on Power Supply, Impeller (and components), Rotor, Rear Bushing, and Gaskets
Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
Installation & Set-Up Guidelines:
Uncrate and inspect the skimmer on a level, structurally reinforced floor pad capable of supporting the weight of the filled skimmer.
Install the two Bubble Blaster HY-10000S pumps onto the lower exterior union ports using the provided silicone seals.
Plumb a dedicated feed pump supplying 3,380 to 4,680 GPH to the 1.25-inch inlet connection.
Route the 75mm (2.5-inch) PVC discharge gate valve piping back into your sump or return reservoir above the water line.
Plumb the collection cup waste drain port to a dedicated waste storage drum or floor drain.
Energize the feed pump first to fill the main 20-inch body, then turn on the two Bubble Blaster pumps and fine-tune the 2.5-inch gate valve until the foam line sits at the base of the neck.
- Match System Volume to Feed Rate. For optimal dwell time in the 20-inch reaction chamber, CoralVue recommends a feed rate of 1.5 to 2 times your total system volume per hour (up to 5,000 GPH). This maximizes organic contact time with the microbubble matrix.
- Maintain Free-Draining Output. Keep the 2.5-inch output pipe exiting cleanly above the sump water level. Submerging the discharge opening creates backpressure, causing internal water level fluctuations that lead to erratic skimming or cup overflows.
- Monitor Clear Volute Housings. The Bubble Blaster HY-10000s pumps feature clear volute covers. Inspect them regularly for snails or debris without disassembling the pumps, and perform routine vinegar soaks to keep the silicon nitride shafts free of calcium deposits.
