Dennerle Plant Care N 250ml liquid solution is a nitrogen fertilizer that supplies nitrogen (nitrate = NO3) to heavily planted aquariums.
Dennerle Plant Care N is a nitrogen fertilizer that supplies nitrogen (nitrate = NO3) to heavily planted aquariums.
Highlights:
Nitrogen Macronutrient Fertilizer for Planted and Demanding Aquariums
To thrive, aquarium plants require approximately 20 different nutrients with nitrogen being particularly important. Nitrogen is classified as a macronutrient and is required in the second-largest amount after carbon dioxide (CO2). Nitrogen, along with light and CO2, is the most crucial element for achieving balanced and healthy plant growth.
What is Nitrogen Needed for in the Aquarium?
Plants require nitrogen for the creation of essential amino acids, which are vital components of proteins and enzymes and play a central role in plant metabolism. Nitrogen is also necessary for the development of chlorophyll, which is responsible for the green color of leaves. Plants can absorb nitrogen in various chemical forms, such as ammonium, nitrate, and urea, but in aquariums, nitrate is the primary form present. Nitrate can be stored and transported within plant cells. In normal, planted community aquariums, additional nitrogen is usually unnecessary as it is already present in sufficient or even excessive quantities through the feed. However, in demanding planted aquariums, such as aquascaping or Holland aquariums, the nutrient requirements are much higher, especially for macronutrients. These types of aquariums are characterized by their above-average nutrient needs.
Detect Nitrate Deficiency in the Aquarium
Heavily planted aquariums are prone to nitrogen deficiency, which can lead to the entire plant turning yellow or yellow-green. The older leaves are the first to show signs of deficiency, appearing more yellow than the new ones, but they typically don't die. Some plants may have glassy and almost transparent leaves or the leaves may turn slightly purple. This deficiency significantly slows down growth and can cause algae problems.
Remedy Nitrate Deficiency in the Aquarium
To maintain a healthy plant aquarium, it's important to monitor the nitrate level and supplement it as needed. The amount of nutrients required depends on factors such as the number of plants, plant species, animal stocking, feeding, water changes, and growth conditions (such as lighting, CO2 addition, and filter technology). Each aquarium has different needs, so it's important to determine the required amount of fertilizer based on individual conditions.
If an aquarium requires all three macronutrients (N, P, and K), we recommend using Dennerle Plant Care NPK to provide nutrients in equal proportions. Biological balance is crucial, as nutrient imbalances can lead to algae problems. In certain cases, an aquarium may require additional nitrogen. It's important to measure nitrate content weekly and dose Plant Care N accordingly, using accurate aquaristic tests or simple dip tests such as the Dennerle WaterTest 6in1.
After several weeks of regular measuring and fertilizing, you can determine the appropriate weekly dose of Plant Care N and increase measuring intervals to 2-4 weeks. To ensure complete nutrient supply and optimal plant growth, it's necessary to combine macronutrient and micronutrient fertilizers. We recommend using Plant Care Pro for best results.
To promote magnificent plant growth and the health of fish and shrimp, we suggest performing a 25-50% partial water change each week to remove waste and inhibitors and prevent nutrient imbalances.
Dosage
For precise and accurate dosing, use 1ml of fertilizer per 100L to add 1mg/L nitrate. Plant Care N can be used as a weekly or daily fertilizer.
