Activated Carbon

Activated carbon is one of the first filtration media used in aquariums. The porous internal network attracts and holds dissolved organic compounds that cause water discoloration, odors and reduced water quality. Aquarium and aquaculture research have proven that aquariums with high organics are prone to increased disease problems. Many organics color the water with a yellowish tint. This reduces the penetration of important light energy in the blue spectrum, reducing PAR and inhibiting coral growth. Use activated carbon in your filter sump, all-in-one filter system or in a media contactor. Check out the media contactors and reactors from Aquaforest, Reef Octopus and Nyos.
