  • Available Through Authorized Retailer
  • CoralVue ABC Automated Testing Reagents 4-Month Supply delivers laboratory-formulated reagent solutions for the automated measurement of alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium in reef aquariums.
  • Each pack includes 4x Reagent A (alkalinity) and 2x each of Reagent B and Reagent C (Ca/Mg) in 250ml bottles — enough for four months of standard automated system testing.
  • Compatible with most automated aquarium testing systems; buying in a larger supply pack reduces reorder frequency and lowers the cost per month of reagent coverage.

4-Month Supply of ABC Automated Testing Reagents (Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium)

The ABC Automated Testing Reagents are laboratory-quality reagent solutions formulated specifically for automated aquarium water testing systems. They measure the three parameters most critical to reef aquarium stability — alkalinity (kH), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg) — with consistent, repeatable results across batches. The reagents are compatible with most automated testing systems on the market and can also be used for manual verification testing when needed.

The system uses three reagents: Reagent A targets alkalinity, while Reagents B and C work together for calcium and magnesium analysis. Each bottle is 250ml. Supply packs are also available in 2-month and 6-month durations, aligned with standard automated system testing frequencies, giving hobbyists a straightforward way to stay stocked without ordering individual bottles.

Calibration solution is not included with any supply pack. The system must be calibrated before first use. CoralVue recommends the Fauna Marin Multi-Reference Solution as the highest-accuracy calibration option — it is an ICP-tested, saltwater-matrix reference with certified values. Alternatively, any trusted manual test kit (Salifert, Fauna Marin, Red Sea, API) or any water source with known, verified parameter values can be used for calibration. Detailed calibration procedures are available at the link in the Instructions tab below.

Due to the chemical nature of this product, ABC Reagents are non-returnable once shipped.

Key Features:

  • Reagent solutions for automated measurement of alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium in reef aquariums
  • Compatible with most automated aquarium testing systems; manual verification testing also supported
  • Three-reagent system: Reagent A (alkalinity), Reagent B (Ca/Mg), Reagent C (Ca/Mg) in 250ml bottles
  • Consistent formulation across all batches for reliable, repeatable results
  • 24-month shelf life unopened; store at room temperature away from direct sunlight
  • Calibration solution not included; system must be calibrated before first use
  • Non-returnable once shipped

Ideal For:

  • Reef hobbyists running an automated testing system who need a consistent, laboratory-formulated reagent supply for alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium monitoring
  • Aquarists who want to reduce manual testing workload while maintaining accurate, repeatable parameter tracking

Pro Tips:

  • Calibrate before first use and after any extended gap in testing. Automated testing systems rely on accurate calibration to produce meaningful results. Do not skip this step. For the highest accuracy, use the Fauna Marin Multi-Reference Solution, which provides ICP-verified values in a saltwater matrix that matches reef aquarium water chemistry.
  • Cross-check automated readings with a trusted manual test kit periodically. Even well-calibrated automated systems benefit from occasional manual verification. Running a Salifert or Fauna Marin manual test alongside your automated results confirms the system is reading accurately between calibration intervals.
  • Store reagents at room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Reagent chemistry is sensitive to heat and light. Proper storage is essential to maintaining the 24-month shelf life and ensuring consistent results throughout the pack duration.
  • Order your next supply pack before the current one runs out. Automated testing system downtime while waiting for reagent delivery can leave you without parameter data during that gap. The 4-month and 6-month packs give you a built-in buffer, but keep an eye on remaining volume and reorder before the last bottles are exhausted.

Before You Begin: What You Need to Know About Calibration

Calibration solution is not included with ABC Reagents. This is intentional — the right standard of accuracy is determined by the individual user, and different hobbyists rely on different calibration methods. You must calibrate your automated testing system before first use. Choose one of the three options below.

Calibration Option 1 — Use Your Trusted Manual Test Kits

Run a manual test of your aquarium water using a test kit you trust (Salifert, Fauna Marin, Red Sea, API, or similar). Use those measured values to calibrate your automated testing system to match. This method is straightforward and works well for hobbyists who already have a reliable manual testing routine.

Calibration Option 2 — Use the Fauna Marin Multi-Reference Solution (Recommended)

The Fauna Marin Multi-Reference Solution is an ICP-tested reference solution formulated in a saltwater matrix, with certified parameter values listed on the bottle. It allows you to evaluate your home test kits under accurate conditions before using those values to calibrate your system. CoralVue recommends this option for the highest calibration accuracy. The Multi-Reference Solution is available separately.

Calibration Option 3 — Use Any Water Source With Known Values

Use any water source whose alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium values you have independently verified to your satisfaction as a calibration standard.

Setup and Operation:

  1. Select your calibration method from the three options above and have your calibration standard ready before installing reagents.
  2. Pour Reagent A into your automated testing system's designated alkalinity reagent container.
  3. Pour Reagent B and Reagent C into their respective calcium and magnesium reagent containers.
  4. Calibrate your system using your chosen calibration method before beginning automated testing.
  5. Begin automated monitoring once calibration is complete.
  6. Periodically cross-check automated readings with a trusted manual test kit to verify calibration accuracy is maintained over time.
  7. Store unused reagent bottles at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate.
  8. Shelf life is 24 months unopened. Note the date of first use on each bottle and replace on schedule.
  9. Reorder before your current supply is exhausted to avoid gaps in automated monitoring. The 4-month and 6-month packs provide a longer buffer between reorder intervals.
