    • Genuine OEM Replacement Grommets: Molded directly by Reef Octopus to provide an exact structural fit over factory ceramic spindles.

    • Pure Silicone Composition: Forged from a low-durometer, saltwater-safe elastomer that dampens engine hums without degrading.

    • Vibration Isolation Shielding: Secures the center spindle true within the motor block, completely eliminating lateral magnet rattle.

    • Multi-Pump System Versatility: Fully compatible with Aquatrance 800, 1000, 1000S, 1200, 1500, 1800, and 1800S pump motor lines.

    • Important Hardware Notice: This package contains the two rubber end caps only. The ceramic center shaft is sold separately.

Reef Octopus Aquatrance Replacement Impeller Shaft End Caps (Pair)

These genuine Reef Octopus Aquatrance Replacement Impeller Shaft End Caps are authentic internal OEM hardware components distributed by CoralVue to eliminate low-frequency humming and protect magnetic drive stability. In compact return pumps and protein skimmers, these tiny rubber grommets play a massive structural role. One cap slips onto each tip of the center spindle, locking the entire spinning core into the deep recesses of the motor stator block and the front volute cover. Because they handle continuous high-speed rotation, these cushions can slowly dry out, crack, swell from high temperatures, or easily vanish down a utility sink drain during routine cleanings. Replacing a worn or missing pair resets your pump back to whisper-quiet performance.

⚠️ IMPORTANT PLUMBING NOTICE: This product configuration contains only the pair of rubber end caps. It does not include a replacement ceramic center shaft or the spinning magnetic impeller core. If your ceramic rod is scored, pitted, or snapped, you will need to purchase the matching standalone shaft kit or full rotor rebuild pack.

    Key Features

    • Isolates Motor Rattle: Restores a perfect vibration-absorbing buffer at both ends of the impeller channel, eliminating annoying cabinet hums.

    • Restores Snappy Startup Turn-Ons: Stops the center spindle from sliding off-axis, eliminating the internal physical friction that causes a pump to lock up or stall after power drops.

    • 100% Saltwater Inert Construction: Formulated from an un-reactive marine elastomer that will never split under heavy chemical treatments or leach elements into delicate coral reef systems.

    • (Note: This retail pack includes (2) individual rubber end caps. Moving needlewheel rotors, paddle impellers, and polished ceramic spindles are sold under separate catalog listings).

    1. Unplug your return pump or protein skimmer from its electrical outlet. Pull the Aquatrance motor block out of your sump and move it to a clean workspace.
    2. Twist the front plastic intake screen or volute cover counter-clockwise roughly 15 degrees to disengage the locking tabs, and pull the cover away to open the inner impeller chamber.
    3. Grip the drive head firmly and slide the old magnetic assembly straight out of the motor block stator well.
    4. The Critical Extraction Step: Use a flashlight to check the deepest point of your empty motor well cylinder. When pulling an old shaft out, one of the original rubber end caps will almost always slide off and get jammed at the very bottom of the tube. Use plastic tweezers or a thin tool to pull it out before continuing. Warning: If you leave an old cap inside, the shaft will sit too high, preventing the front pump cover from sealing and locking up the motor block.
    5. Retrieve your fresh replacement rubber end caps. Press one cap firmly over the bottom tip of your existing ceramic shaft, and seat the second cap snugly over the top tip.
    6. Lower the assembly straight down along the vertical axis of the motor cylinder until the internal magnetic field pulls the rotor completely into place. Re-attach your volute cover, lock it clockwise, mount the pump, and restore power.

    Pro Tips:

    • Always Extract Stuck Legacy Caps from the Well Prior to Reassembly. When a pump begins rattling or fails to restart after a water change, it is usually because one of these small rubber caps has detached and wedged itself down into the bottom of the motor well or into the center recess of the front volute cover. If you drop a shaft back into the pump with a new cap attached while an old cap is still jammed at the bottom, it acts as a spacer that chokes off internal tolerances. Always verify that both the front faceplate and the deepest point of the motor block are entirely clear of old rubber before putting your pump back together.
    • Use a Small Drop of RO Water to Seat Tight Covers Without Tearing the Elastomer. Because Reef Octopus molds these replacement caps to exceptionally tight tolerances to form a vibration-free lock, pressing a completely dry front volute cover down over a dry rubber cap can sometimes cause the rubber to twist, bind, or tear out of shape. To ensure a smooth fit, wipe a tiny drop of fresh RO water inside the receiving port of the volute cover face. This allows the faceplate to slide over the rubber tip smoothly, ensuring a flush seal without stressing the plastic tracking ears.
    • Soak Your Rubber Components in Citric Acid to Dissolve Binding Calcification. Because aquarium pumps run continuously in mineral-rich environments, calcium carbonate and hard salt creep will naturally precipitate inside the hot motor block. This calcification forms a rough crust across the magnetic barrel, ceramic spindle, and rubber end cushions. Hard crust locks the rubber caps into the spinning core, tearing them apart when the motor fires up. Every 3 months, pull your pump apart and soak the components in a warm bath of water mixed with citric acid or white vinegar to safely dissolve the scale.
