170-INT / Advanced Control In-sump Protein Skimmer

The new and innovative Reef Octopus Regal 170-INT in-sump protein skimmer supplies powerful filtration for aquariums up to 300 gallons where sump space is not limited. It is constructed of high-quality cast acrylic and completely disassembled for cleaning. Its hybrid conical body naturally stabilizes and concentrates the organic-rich foam as it rises. 

This Regal skimmer is quipped with a new  Reef Octopus controllable Direct Current DC-3500S pinwheel skimmer pump, the latest variable speed flow technology, allowing for refined control, enhanced performance, and efficiency. Most skimmer pumps available to hobbyists are alternating current "AC" pumps (the type of power that comes out of your wall outlet).  Direct current pumps have several key advantages over traditional AC pumps.  Most notably, you can control the motor's rotational speed, thus electronically controlling air and water flow rates into the skimmer.  Now, the user can have the skimmer process more or less water by pushing a button!!!

Enhanced Control

This controller allows users to select five preset speeds indicated by five lit LEDs.  The controller also features a feed/service and an On/Off button.  When the feed button is pressed, the skimmer pump shuts down and will automatically reactivate after 10 minutes.  Press the feed button a second time to resume normal operation. RO DC pumps feature a true slow startup where the pump slowly ramps up from zero RPM to the full preset speed over a period of approximately 10 seconds.

The pump and controller are connected via a waterproof 3-conductor union. The detachable controller allows for a simple waterproof union. The volute can rotate to change the pump's output orientation in 90-degree intervals, meaning users can output water vertically (up or down) and horizontally.
