Biological Filtration

Aquarists have always sought to maintain a stable aquatic environment. Stability is the key to long-term health and beauty when keeping captive freshwater and marine life. Natural bacterial break-down, detoxification and recycling of waste and nutrients, known as biological filtration, is a key component of aquatic stability. The microbes that form the biological filter live throughout the aquarium. Aquarists use special biological media to provide a refuge for these microscopic organisms. While much of the biological filter lives on rock and sand, biological media act as a microbe save haven, re-seeding the tank with new colonies. Maxspect Nano-Tech Bio-Spheres are compact high-surface area porous spheres.  2Bio-Spheres has about the same surface area as 40 pounds of live rock. Aquaforest’s Life Bio Fil media comes pre-seeded with live bacteria. Life Bio Fil speeds up the biological maturation process in new aquariums. Whether you’ve got a nano-tank or a monster reef, we’ve got the right bio-media for your set-up.
