Reef Octopus VarioS-10 Pump Replacement Smart Controller (ROP-VAR10-CTRL)

The Reef Octopus VarioS-10 Pump Smart Controller (SKU: ROP-VAR10-CTRL) is an authentic factory-spec electronic driver module distributed by CoralVue to restore full variable-speed management across your high-volume marine filtration loop. The VarioS-10 represents the pinnacle of commercial-class aquarium circulation, running on an elevated 36-volt power track to generate over 4,200 gallons per hour of pressurized flow. Because driving a high-torque, 200-watt brushless motor requires sophisticated thermal management and current regulation, this dedicated smart controller is built with robust industrial-grade internal circuitry designed to operate safely under continuous full-scale loads.

Unlike basic inline transformers, this advanced control module serves as the primary processing center for your entire return network. It features a water-resistant membrane touchpad that lets you scroll through five distinct preset speed profiles, allowing you to calibrate head-height resistance flawlessly without using restrictive mechanical ball valves. Over years of continuous operation inside humid aquarium stands, controllers can suffer from localized power surges, accidental liquid splashes across the rear connection ports, or internal capacitor wear that manifests as motor stall codes. Swapping out a dead, glitched, or water-damaged driver with this genuine factory replacement fully restores your system's digital automation features, keeping your primary filtration cycle running reliably day and night.

    Key Features

    • Multi-System Digital Integration: Outfitted with an isolated 0-10V input port, enabling seamless external control via major third-party aquarium computers (such as the Neptune Systems Apex or GHL Profilux).

    • Smart Start-Up Diagnostic Logic: Features an automatic soft-start sequence that slowly ramps up impeller revolutions to eliminate harsh pipe hammer and mechanical strain on the ceramic rotor shaft.

    • Visual Status Monitoring Array: Uses high-intensity LED indicator paths to display current speed selection profiles, active feed countdowns, and real-time electronic diagnostic codes.

    • Robust Thermal Sink Backing: Encased in a structurally sound, impact-resistant polymer shell backed by a slotted metal heat-sink plate that draws warmth away from critical microprocessor sets.

    Verified Hardware Compatibility

    • Reef Octopus VarioS Series: Engineered exclusively as the native replacement driver for the Reef Octopus VarioS-10 Controllable Circulation Pump.

    • (Note: This controller operates on a specialized 36V electronic matrix. It is not backward compatible with lower-voltage pump families, such as the 24V VarioS 2, 4, 6, or 8 systems, which utilize completely different amp ratings and multi-pin connector profiles).

    What’s Included:

    • (1) Reef Octopus Replacement VarioS-10 Variable-Speed Smart Controller Module

    • (1) Heavy-Duty Slotted Aluminum Mounting Bracket Bracket with Hardware Set

    • (Note: 36V external AC/DC power supply bricks, multi-pin motor cables, mechanical float switches, and primary pump bodies are sold separately).

    Technical Specs:

    • Official Manufacturing Title: Reef Octopus VarioS-10 Pump Controller

    • SKU / Factory Part Identifier: ROP-VAR10-CTRL

    • Input Operating Voltage: 36V DC Powered

    • Speed Configuration Scale: 5 Preset Speed Levels + Dual Mode Feed Selection

    • Interface Profile Type: 0-10V Standard Interface Port & Dedicated Float Switch Port

    • Primary Function: Brushless Motor Commutation, Thermal Protection, & Digital Integration

    1. Unplug the main 36V power transformer brick from your wall socket to cut all live electricity to the equipment bay before replacing components.
    2. Trace the thick, heavy-gauge waterproof power cord running from your VarioS-10 pump motor block up to the base of the damaged controller.
    3. Unscrew the threaded plastic locking collar on the multi-pin motor cable connector counter-clockwise, and pull the cord straight out of the socket.
    4. Unplug any auxiliary lines, such as your automated float switch jack or 0-10V controller patch cables, from their respective bottom ports.
    5. Slide the old controller unit upward off its mounting bracket, slot your new ROP-VAR10-CTRL module into place, and realign all electronic cables.
    6. Hand-tighten the waterproof locking rings on the motor cable clockwise, plug your 36V power brick back into the wall, and calibrate your preferred speed line.

    Pro Tips:

    • Mount the Controller Completely Outside of Your Sump Cabinet. Even though this replacement driver is built with a rugged casing and a water-resistant membrane touchpad, it is an advanced electronic item that should never be mounted in areas exposed to heavy moisture. Avoid anchoring the controller inside enclosed, unvented sump cabinets where continuous saltwater condensation and evaporating salt creep coat the walls. Mount the unit on an external equipment board or a dry wall panel next to your tank to prevent internal board corrosion and trace-line shorts.
    • Never Hot-Plug the Multi-Pin Motor Cable. Whenever you need to disconnect the pump for seasonal impeller cleaning or plumbing modifications, always unplug the main power transformer from the wall outlet before unscrewing the multi-pin motor connection cord from the base of this controller. Uncoupling or plugging the heavy-gauge motor line while the controller is receiving live 36V current can cause an instantaneous micro-arc across the electrical pins. This electrical spike can fry the sensitive driver chip inside the controller, instantly voiding your warranty.
    • Utilize the Safety Float Switch Line to Prevent Sump Disasters. Take full advantage of the dedicated safety port located on the bottom face of this module. By plugging a Reef Octopus float switch line directly into this port and anchoring the sensor inside your skimmer collection cup or return section, you create a powerful automated safety loop. If the cup fills with waste or if a drain line plugs, the controller will read the sensor trigger instantly and kill all power to the VarioS-10 motor block, preventing catastrophic living room floods before they can start.
