IceCap 3K/4K Impeller Shaft
Maintaining high-volume, cross-flow water movement across your reef aquarium relies on a perfectly straight and smooth drive axle. The IceCap 3K/4K Impeller Shaft (SKU: IC-GP4K-SHAFT) is the official OEM replacement ceramic shaft and rotor assembly designed for both IceCap 3K and IceCap 4K Gyre Flow Pumps. Over time, calcium carbonate buildup, sand ingestion, or accidental bending during routine pump cleaning can cause the ceramic shaft to snap or score, resulting in a stalled motor, rattling sounds, or total loss of flow.
This replacement assembly features a high-grade ceramic axle paired with the central magnetic core that fits directly through the gyre motor housing. Because ceramic does not rust or swell in marine environments, it provides continuous, frictionless rotation when properly cushioned by end bushings inside the cage shrouds.
Essential Spare Maintenance Part
Ceramic shafts are engineered to be extremely hard yet brittle under lateral tension. Keeping a spare shaft on hand ensures that an accidental drop during vinegar cleaning won't leave your reef display without circulation.
(Note: Sold individually as (1) replacement ceramic impeller shaft with magnet core).
What’s Included:
(1) IceCap 3K/4K Replacement Ceramic Impeller Shaft with Central Magnet Core
Technical Specs:
SKU / Factory Part Identifier: IC-GP4K-SHAFT
Axle Material: Saltwater-Safe High-Density Ceramic
Core Material: Permanent Encapsulated Magnet
Color: White Ceramic with Black Magnet Sleeve
Primary Compatibility: IceCap 3K Gyre Pump, IceCap 4K Gyre Pump
Installation & Replacement Guidelines:
Disconnect power to your IceCap 3K or 4K Gyre Pump controller and remove the pump from the aquarium.
Disassemble both outer directional cages and slide the left and right propellers off the drive shaft ends.
Gently pull the damaged or broken ceramic shaft out of the central motor block cavity.
Clean any residual debris or calcium deposits from inside the motor block sleeve using a soft brush or vinegar soak.
Slide the new IC-GP4K-SHAFT into the motor block until the central magnet aligns with the stator cavity.
Reinstall the rubber motor bushings, propellers, and directional cages before returning the pump to service.
Pro Tips:
Never Force or Twist the Shaft. When reassembling your gyre pump, slide propellers smoothly along the ceramic axle. Forcing or twisting a tight propeller onto the shaft at an angle can snap the ceramic axle instantly.
Always Check Bushing Alignment. Verify that the small rubber dampening bushings (IC-GP2K4K-BUSHING) are positioned on both ends of the ceramic shaft inside the cage seats. Running the ceramic shaft directly against hard plastic cage caps without rubber bushings will cause intense vibration and break the shaft tips.
