    • Genuine OEM Direct Replacement: Authentic factory-spec primary front wet-end impeller chamber cover designed explicitly for large-frame 36V Reef Octopus controllable DC water pumps.
    • Dual Return & Skimmer Architecture: Form-cut with a universal internal dimension curve that perfectly fits both smooth paddle-blade water propellers and rigid pinwheel fractionating rotors.
    • Integrated 1.25-Inch Threaded Suction Port: Features a heavy-wall male union threaded inlet extension designed to lock flush with factory-spec intake screens or plumbing unions.
    • Heavy-Wall Molded PVC Formulation: Fabricated from solid, marine-grade white polymer composite engineered to handle high backpressure loads without structural wall bowing.
    • Toolless Twist-and-Lock Fitment: Outfitted with an interlocking bayonet-style flange rim that mounts securely to your primary pump stator body without requiring corrosion-prone metal screws.
    • Restores Lost Pressure Tolerances: Instantly corrects lagging head-height performance, microbubble bypass leaks, and operational motor chattering caused by worn or warped tracking tabs. volute cover for Reef Octopus RODC water and skimmer pump models RODC-5500(s), VarioS-6(s).

Reef Octopus VarioS-6 & VarioS-6S Replacement White Volute Cover (ROP-VAR6-VOL)

The Reef Octopus VarioS-6 & VarioS-6S White Pump Volute Cover (SKU: ROP-VAR6-VOL) is an authentic factory-spec replacement front chamber faceplate distributed by CoralVue to preserve the high-efficiency fluid movement, suction seals, and baseline hydraulic pressures of your core filtration loop. Serving as the primary enclosure for the wet end of your pump, the volute cover plays a crucial mechanical role. It compresses water around the spinning impeller to create a clean centrifugal force, moving up to 1,720 GPH on return lines or pulling up to 2,000 LPH of air on skimmer lines. Its internal dimensions are calibrated precisely down to the millimeter to maintain proper clearance tolerances around your rotor assembly.

Operating a high-power variable-speed DC pump around the clock under heavy backpressure inevitably subjects the wet-end housing to significant physical stress. Hard mineral scaling can bind the interlocking tracking over time, and forcing the pump open during routine maintenance teardowns can easily shear the fine plastic bayonet ears or split the threaded intake shoulder. Running a return line or skimmer loop with a compromised, cracked, or loose volute cover is a major system hazard; it allows the pump to pull in bypass air, introduces turbulent water tracking that degrades performance, or causes loud vibrating rattles against your sump glass. Swapping out a worn cover with this genuine original factory component completely re-establishes a pressure-tight, hermetic seal.

    Key Features

    • Universal Internal Clearances: Native layout easily accommodates standard VarioS-6 smooth water propellers as well as the tall pin matrix of VarioS-6S fractionating skimmer impellers.

    • Chemical-Inert Marine Polymer: High-durometer PVC formulation resists internal wall erosion from spinning sand grit and is rated to handle continuous submersed ozone (O3) exposure.

    • Rotatable Orientation Footprint: Symmetrical bayonet design allows you to position the top discharge port in 90-degree intervals to exit vertically (up or down) or horizontally.

    • (Note: This replacement component includes the single white plastic front volute cover plate only. Internal rubber sealing O-rings, threaded plumbing union collars, intake grids, and pump motor stators are sold separately).

    Verified Hardware Compatibility

    • Reef Octopus Return Pump Loops: Sized natively as the factory matching replacement cover for the Reef Octopus VarioS-6 Controllable Return Water Pump and legacy RODC-5500 Water Pump.

    • Reef Octopus Protein Skimmer Networks: Serves as the default factory intake faceplate for standard in-sump Reef Octopus VarioS-6S Controllable Skimmer Pumps.

    What’s Included:

    • (1) Reef Octopus Replacement VarioS-6 / VarioS-6S White PVC Twist-Lock Volute Cover Plate

    • (Note: Housing rubber sealing O-rings, intake strainers, and front ceramic axle shaft bushings are sold separately).

    Technical Specs:

    • Official Manufacturing Title: Reef Octopus Volute Cover for VarioS-6 / RODC-5500

    • SKU / Factory Part Identifier: ROP-VAR6-VOL

    • Inlet Intake Fitting Dimension: 1.25-Inch Male Union Threaded Profile

    • Outlet Discharge Fitting Dimension: 1.25-Inch Male Union Threaded Profile

    • Material Matrix Composition: High-Impact Heavy-Wall Injection-Molded White PVC

    • Primary Function: Impeller Wet-Well Containment, Compression Tracking, & Suction Sealing

    1. Disconnect your pump controller and pull the main 36V power supply brick from the wall socket to completely eliminate live electricity before handling your plumbing.
    2. Close all inline plumbing gates to isolate your pump loop, loosen your output union collars, and pull the VarioS block out of your sump chamber onto a dry towel.
    3. Firmly grasp the old white volute cover plate by the exterior output nozzle and rotate it roughly 15 degrees counter-clockwise to unlock it from the bayonet tracking.
    4. Slide the cover straight forward off the front face of the pump. Caution: Check to see if your front black rubber axle bushing or small plastic shim washer came out inside the old cover.
    5. Inspect the primary rubber sealing O-ring that rests along the shoulder groove of your pump motor block. Clean away any trapped sand grains, organic slime, or calcified salt creep.
    6. Align the new ROP-VAR6-VOL cover over the impeller, press it firmly flush against the motor block shoulder, and rotate it clockwise 15 degrees until it firmly clicks locked into place.

    Pro Tips:

    • Never Twist the Volute Face If Hard Mineral Scaling Is Present. If your pump has been operating inside your reef system for several months without a maintenance teardown, calcium carbonate scale will naturally bake onto the interlocking bayonet tabs. If you attempt to force the volute cover off the pump while this hard crust is present, the calcified scale will bind the tracks and easily snap the plastic locking ears right off the housing. Always soak the front end of the pump in warm water and citric acid powder for 30 minutes to dissolve the scale before attempting to twist the cover open.
    • Lubricate the Housing Gasket for an Absolute Airtight Seal. When placing the volute cover back over your pump motor block, never allow the housing's rubber sealing O-ring to compress completely dry against the clean plastic walls. Dry assembly can cause the rubber ring to bunch up, pinch, or roll out of its channel when you twist the cover into its locked position. This minor distortion allows atmospheric air to bleed into the wet well from around the rim, causing massive performance drops. Rub a microscopic smear of 100% pure silicone plumbing grease onto the ring to help it glide into position safely.
    • Always Check Your Axle Bushing Alignment During Reassembly. Inside the center nose of this white volute cover sits a small round recess designed to support the front black rubber cushion bushing of your polished ceramic axle shaft. When you pull your old volute off, that rubber bushing sometimes stays stuck inside the old plastic nose cone. Before mounting your fresh replacement cover, make sure that the rubber bushing is properly seated over the tip of the ceramic shaft or placed squarely inside the new volute nose pocket. Running the pump without this cushion will cause severe shaft rattling, which can easily snap the ceramic axle.
