Worn or missing bushings cause the internal ceramic rotor shaft to rattle against the hard plastic housing, resulting in excessive motor noise, severe vibration, and potential shaft snapping.
Sold as 1 complete set of 4 individual pieces, these dampeners sit on the ends of the ceramic shaft assembly inside the cage and motor housing, creating a cushioned, low-friction seat. Installation & Replacement Guidelines:
Disconnect power to your IceCap 2K or 4K Gyre Pump controller and remove the pump from the aquarium.
Disassemble the outer cage shrouds and slide the propellers and ceramic shaft out of the motor block.
Inspect the shaft end recesses and inner cage seats for any old, hardened, or torn rubber bushings and remove them.
Press the 4 new IC-GP2K4K-BUSHING rubber dampeners firmly onto the ends of the ceramic shaft assembly and housing seats.
Reassemble the propellers, cages, and directional shrouds, ensuring the shaft spins smoothly without friction or resistance before powering on.
Pro Tips:
- Clean Bushing Seats During Maintenance. When performing bi-monthly pump maintenance, clean out any detritus, calcium buildup, or sand grains trapped inside the bushing seats before inserting new rubber dampeners. Debris trapped behind the bushing can force the shaft out of alignment.
- Check Bushings Before Powering On. If your gyre pump emits a loud rattling or buzzing noise after reassembly, stop the pump immediately. Rattling almost always indicates that one of the 4 rubber bushings fell out during assembly or is not fully seated in the motor housing.
