The Reef Octopus SRO 5000-INT (Super Reef Octopus) is a high-capacity in-sump protein skimmer designed to be the primary filtration engine for large reef systems. Built with a massive 10-inch cylindrical body, this skimmer provides the internal volume necessary to maintain extreme air-to-water contact time. At its heart lies the Bubble Blaster HY-5000S pump, a motor specifically engineered from the ground up for protein skimming rather than adapted from a standard water pump.
The SRO 5000-INT utilizes a specialized bubble plate to reduce turbulence within the reaction chamber. This allows the massive volume of micro-bubbles produced by the pinwheel impeller to rise smoothly, creating a stable foam column that efficiently carries organics into the collection cup. CoralVue, Inc. and Reef Octopus hereby guarantee this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:
- Five (5) year warranty on pump body/housing
- Three (3) year warranty on Reef Octopus-branded controller
- One (1) year warranty on Power Supply, Impeller (and components), Rotor, Rear Bushing, and Gaskets
Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Verify the Bubble Blaster HY-5000S pump is securely attached to the skimmer intake.
- Place the skimmer in your sump, aiming for a water depth of 8.5 inches.
- Ensure the air silencer is mounted vertically and the airline is free of kinks.
- Open the gate valve completely before plugging the pump into a GFCI outlet.
- Slowly close the gate valve until the foam line reaches the base of the collection cup neck.
- Allow 2–3 weeks for the skimmer to "break in" before final performance tuning.
Pro Tips:
- Metric Plumbing Standards. The SRO 5000-INT utilizes a 50mm Metric output. For the most secure installation in a hard-plumbed sump, use a 50mm Metric Union to connect the skimmer's discharge to your drainage lines.
- Bubble Blaster Maintenance. The HY-5000S is a powerhouse, but calcium buildup can affect the pinwheel impeller over time. We recommend a full teardown and vinegar soak of the pump every 6 months to maintain peak air-draw and silent operation.
- Stable Water Level. For consistent skimming, the water level in the skimmer chamber must remain stable. We highly recommend using an Auto Top Off (ATO) system to ensure the sump depth stays at the optimal 8.5 inches.
