Maxspect XF230/XF330 & IceCap 1K/2K Gyre Protective Covers
SKU: GP-MC-130
- Direct OEM Gyre Fit: Precision-engineered protective mesh sleeves designed specifically for compact crossflow models, including Maxspect Gyre XF130, XF230, and XF330, as well as IceCap 1K and 2K wavemakers.
- Essential Livestock Protection: Shields roaming bubble-tip anemones (BTAs), carpet anemones, grazing snails, hermit crabs, and small fish from entering spinning crossflow rotors.
- Preserves Laminar Flow Dynamics: Porous woven mesh fabric allows broad, horizontal water movement across the reef without significantly dampening flow velocity or overloading the pump motor.
- Prevents Locked Rotors & Jamming: Keeps macroalgae strands, falling coral fragments, and shell debris from lodging between the cage slats and ceramic motor shaft.
- Tool-Free Slip-On Design: Flexible elasticized sleeves pull directly over the directional cages for effortless removal, cleaning, and replacement during routine maintenance.

Maxspect & IceCap Gyre Protective Mesh Covers
Crossflow gyre wavemakers produce wide, laminar water motion that eliminates dead spots in reef aquariums, but their high-speed horizontal cage rotors present a continuous hazard to roaming invertebrates. Mobile livestock—particularly bubble-tip anemones seeking new perches, sea hares, nudibranchs, and grazing cleanup crew snails—can easily crawl between standard cage slats and become caught in the spinning blades. The Maxspect XF230/XF330 & IceCap 1K/2K Gyre Protective Covers (SKU: GP-MC-130) are the official OEM fine-mesh sleeve guards engineered specifically for Maxspect Gyre and IceCap Gyre Compact Wavemakers.
Constructed from a tear-resistant, saltwater-safe woven mesh polymer, the GP-MC-130 sleeves slip over the outer directional flow cages of the pump assembly. The fine mesh pattern serves as an effective barrier against creeping tentacle tissue and snail shells while maintaining the expansive, linear water distribution characteristic of gyre flow technology. By keeping foreign objects away from the spinning blades, these sleeves also prevent sudden impeller binding, which protects ceramic bushings, magnetic drive shafts, and electronic motor blocks from thermal shock and overload errors.
Ideal Replacement Scenario
If you introduce roaming anemones (such as Bubble Tip, Rock Flower, or Carpet anemones) into your reef system, keep delicate nano-sized fish, or find that your existing gyre mesh sleeves have torn, frayed, or become calcified over time, installing an authentic pair of GP-MC-130 covers delivers vital protection and equipment reliability.

Installation & Maintenance Guidelines:
Turn off or pause the gyre wavemaker using its controller or power supply before servicing.
Remove the pump from the glass mounting bracket and lift it to a flat, clean surface.
Inspect and clean the directional cage ribs of any macroalgae strands or mineral crusting.
Gently stretch the open elastic end of the GP-MC-130 sleeve and pull it completely over the first rotor cage until all flow openings are covered.
Slide the second sleeve over the opposite rotor cage in the same manner.
Verify that the mesh fabric lies flush across the cage frame without sagging into the rotating clearance zone of the inner rotor blades.
Submerge the pump assembly back onto its magnetic mount inside the aquarium and restore controller power.
Pro Tips:
- Rinse in Freshwater Every 1–2 Weeks to Prevent Flow Reduction. Because mesh sleeves intercept suspended organic debris, macroalgae filaments, and uneaten fish food, pore openings will gradually accumulate detritus. Slide the sleeves off during regular water changes, rinse them thoroughly under warm freshwater or submerge them in a mild citric acid bath to dissolve calcium scale, and re-install them to maintain peak flow output.
- Maintain a Second Pair for Seamless Cleaning Swaps. Rather than waiting for covers to soak, clean, and air-dry, keep an extra set of GP-MC-130 sleeves on hand. You can immediately install the clean backup set onto the pump during routine maintenance and soak the soiled pair at your convenience, ensuring your livestock remains protected with zero downtime.
