The Reef Octopus Regal 250-EXT is a professional-grade external recirculating protein skimmer designed for large reef systems up to 600 gallons. Featuring a substantial 10-inch wine-glass body, this skimmer utilizes a recirculating design where the VarioS-6S DC pump focuses entirely on mixing air and water within the reaction chamber. By using a separate feed pump (sold separately) to move water through the skimmer, users can perfectly tune the dwell time, ensuring that even the most stubborn organic compounds are efficiently removed.

CoralVue, Inc. and Reef Octopus hereby guarantee this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:
- Five (5) year warranty on pump body/housing
- Three (3) year warranty on Reef Octopus-branded controller
- One (1) year warranty on Power Supply, Impeller (and components), Rotor, Rear Bushing, and Gaskets
Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Assemble the skimmer body and verify all O-rings and union connections are watertight for external operation.
- Place the Regal 250-EXT on a stable, level surface near your sump or in your filtration room.
- Connect a dedicated feed pump (not included) to the 25mm intake.
- Plug the VarioS-6S pump and float switch into the controller and connect to power.
- Start the feed pump first to fill the reaction chamber, then power on the VarioS-6S pump.
- Adjust the geared gate valve until the internal water level reaches the transition of the body and neck.
- Perform frequent leak checks during the first 48 hours of operation.
Pro Tips:
- Optimizing Dwell Time. Because the 250-EXT is a recirculating unit, you have total control over the feed rate. For maximum nutrient export in high-bioload systems, aim for a feed rate of roughly 1.5 to 2 times your total system volume per hour.
- External Safety Precautions. While the float switch prevents overflows, we always recommend placing external skimmers inside a secondary containment tray or near a floor drain as an added layer of security for your flooring and stand.
- Metric Hardware Maintenance. The Regal 250-EXT utilizes 50mm Metric output and 25mm Metric input fittings. If you are hard-plumbing the unit, use Metric Union Couplings on both sides to ensure the skimmer can be completely removed for annual deep cleaning.
