Reef Octopus Skimmer & VarioS Pump Replacement Rubber Peg Feet - 5-Pack (ROP-PEG-SKMR)

The Reef Octopus Skimmer and VarioS Pump Rubber Peg Feet (SKU: ROP-PEG-SKMR) are factory-direct OEM replacement components manufactured by CoralVue to preserve quiet filtration dynamics. High-performance water pumps and needle-wheel skimmers generate constant rotational energy. When these devices sit directly against a hard glass or acrylic sump floor, these micro-vibrations develop into loud, low-frequency hums that echo through the aquarium cabinet. These small rubber plugs are critical for absorbing that kinetic energy before it turns into ambient noise.

Molded entirely from high-density, saltwater-inert rubber compounds, these replacement pegs resist the stiffening, swelling, and chemical degradation caused by continuous submersion in marine environments. They feature a direct push-fit installation design that fits cleanly into the pre-cut holes on modern Reef Octopus skimmer baseplates, inline media reactors, and VarioS variable-speed DC pump slide mounts. Replacing a missing or hard, calcified foot with a new rubber plug instantly reduces equipment noise and keeps high-end filtration units from shifting in the sump compartment.

    Key Features

    • Active Acoustic Isolation: Cushions the entire dry weight of your filtration hardware, preventing hums from vibrating against hard surfaces.

    • 100% Reef-Safe Construction: Engineered completely without synthetic chemical additives that could compromise sensitive corals or fish tank water.

    • Tapered Pull-Through Design: Built with a distinct anchor groove that locks tight into your equipment's base framework without requiring adhesives.

    • Resists Salt Crusting: Retains its flexibility over years of continuous exposure to help damp micro-vibrations in high-evaporation chambers.

    • Multi-Equipment Optimization: Restores stability across classic in-sump skimmers, space-savers, and external return lines alike.

    1. Turn off your pump controller, disconnect the power leads, and remove the filtration equipment from your sump.
    2. Empty any residual water out of the acrylic chamber and lay the unit on its side over a soft towel.
    3. Locate the small circular mounting holes on the bottom edges of the pump base or skimmer acrylic floorplate.
    4. Take a new rubber peg from the ROP-PEG-SKMR pack and wet the tapered anchor stem slightly with fresh water to lubricate it.
    5. Push the narrow tip of the stem into the mounting hole from the bottom, twisting gently until the retention shoulder pulls completely through the plate.
    6. Check that the flat base of the rubber foot sits flush against the bottom of the acrylic plate, then place your equipment back into the sump.

    Pro Tips:

    • Use a Simple Twist Motion—Never Use Sharp Tools. When pulling the tapered rubber stem through tight acrylic baseplate slots, it can be tempting to grab it with metal pliers or push it with a screwdriver. Avoid this, as sharp metal tools can easily tear the soft rubber head off the new peg. Moisten the rubber stem with a little fresh water or aquarium-safe silicone lubricant, then push and twist with your fingertips. It will pop into place cleanly without damaging the rubber.
    • Soak Calcified Plugs in Vinegar for Easy Removal. If you are updating an older skimmer that has been in operation for several years, the old rubber feet may be encrusted with hard calcium carbonate scale or coralline algae. Trying to force them out can scrape the acrylic frame. Spray the old mounting holes with white vinegar or a mild pump-cleaning solution, let it sit for ten minutes to dissolve the scale, and the old worn-out pegs will slide out easily.
    • Keep an Eye on Missing Plugs During Deep Maintenance Cleanings. Because these rubber feet are lightweight and push-installed, they can occasionally pull loose if you slide your heavy filtration kit across rough surfaces during quick cleanings. Keeping a complete backup 5-pack of ROP-PEG-SKMR in your fish cabinet ensures you can replace a missing foot right away. This prevents your equipment from sitting un-level, which can warp acrylic plates or cause loud vibration noise against your glass tank floors.
