The Reef Octopus 4in Waste Collector provides a critical safety net for your saltwater aquarium, effectively putting an end to smelly skimmate while preventing catastrophic skimmer overflows. This 3-in-1 device acts as a high-capacity reservoir, an odor neutralizer, and an electronic failsafe. By collecting up to 1400 ml of skimmate, it significantly decreases the frequency at which you must empty your skimmer’s collection cup.
Safety is the core focus of this unit. It is equipped with a sensitive overflow safety switch that automatically shuts off your skimmer pump if the collector reaches capacity. Additionally, the included 5-minute delay timer ensures your skimmer does not restart immediately after a power outage, allowing sump water levels to stabilize first and preventing a "wet" overflow. This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
Delay Timer
When the RED LED is on, no power is on the timer. When the GREEN LED is on, Power is available on the timer. If an aquarium suffers a power outage and is reconnected, the skimmer may overflow because the sump's water level may change. The timer will delay power to the skimmer for 5 minutes once the power is reconnected.
- Place the waste collector on a level surface, ensuring the intake barb is lower than your skimmer's drain.
- Connect your skimmer’s drain line to the collector’s intake barb (tubing sold separately).
- Place the Delay Timer box in a dry location away from moisture.
- Plug your protein skimmer pump into the socket on the Delay Timer box.
- Insert the Delay Timer's power plug into a standard 110V outlet.
- The skimmer will remain off (Red LED) for 5 minutes before turning on (Green LED).
Verify your barb height. This collector is gravity-fed, meaning the intake barb (12.25" from the base) must be lower than the bottom of your skimmer's collection cup to work properly. If your skimmer is short, you may need to raise it on a stand.
Check your carbon monthly. The carbon in the top cup will eventually become saturated with odors. For the best performance, replace the carbon every 4 weeks to keep your fish room smelling fresh.
