Reef Octopus KS150 Nilson Kalk Reactor
The Reef Octopus KS150 Nilson Kalk Reactor provides a simple and efficient way to automate the supplementation of calcium and alkalinity in your reef system. Unlike traditional methods that require large, open vats of limewater, the KS150 utilizes a high-torque, low-RPM motor to gently stir calcium hydroxide (Kalkwasser). This process keeps the solution fresh and potent by minimizing exposure to air, which otherwise degrades Kalkwasser’s efficacy.
Designed for aquariums up to 210 gallons, the Reef Octopus KS150 helps maintain high pH levels while simultaneously precipitating phosphates. The reactor's innovative design ensures that undissolved particles remain at the bottom of the chamber, allowing only the clear, highly saturated liquid to be dosed into your sump. This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Ensure the reactor is placed in an upright, stable position where the outlet is higher than the sump water level.
- Connect the inlet and outlet tubes using 1/4" RO tubing.
- Loosen the thumb screws to remove the lid and add approximately 120–150g of calcium hydroxide.
- Fill the main body with RO/DI water and secure the lid.
- Connect your water feed pump (sold separately) to the reactor inlet.
- Plug the stirrer motor into a timer or controller; do not run the motor continuously.
- Set the timer to run for 5 minutes every 2 hours to maintain proper saturation.
Do not run the stirrer motor continuously. The integrated motor is designed for periodic use and has an estimated lifespan of 1,500 hours. Setting it to run for 5 minutes every 2 hours is sufficient to keep the Kalkwasser saturated without burning out the motor.
Position the output line above the water line in a high-flow area. Kalkwasser has a very high pH. Directing the drip into a high-flow area of the sump ensures it disperses quickly, preventing localized precipitation and keeping your return pumps clean.
