The Reef Octopus NK-200-TL is a precision-engineered performance upgrade designed specifically for the 200 and 220-series Reef Octopus twist-lock skimmers. By adding 3 inches of vertical height to the neck, this extension allows for a taller, more stable foam column. This extra height is critical for increasing "dwell time"—the duration that air bubbles interact with dissolved organics—resulting in more efficient waste removal and cleaner aquarium water.
Unlike standard friction-fit extensions, the NK-200-TL features the Reef Octopus proprietary twist-lock flange. This ensures a secure, airtight seal that prevents salt creep and accidental dislodgment. Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Turn off the skimmer pump and remove the collection cup by twisting it counter-clockwise.
- Inspect the O-ring on the NK-200-TL to ensure it is seated properly in the groove.
- Align the tabs of the NK-200-TL with the slots on the skimmer body.
- Twist the extension clockwise until it locks firmly into place.
- Reinstall the collection cup onto the top of the extension using the same twist-lock motion.
- Restart the skimmer and monitor the water level; adjust your output valve to calibrate the new foam height.
Pro Tips:
Check the O-ring seal regularly.
Because the twist-lock mechanism creates a tight seal, salt creep can sometimes build up in the tracks. During routine cleaning, wipe down the O-ring and the locking tabs with fresh water to ensure smooth operation.
Don't forget the cup clearance. Adding the NK-200-TL increases the total height of the skimmer by 3 inches. Ensure you have at least 4 inches of room to twist and lift the collection cup off the extension without hitting the top of your aquarium stand.
Ideal for High-Bioload Tuning. If your skimmer is producing very wet skimmate due to a heavy fish load, adding this extension provides the extra neck height needed to allow the foam to dry out before reaching the collection cup.
