Reef Octopus Replacement LED Light Tube for Algae Reactors (SKU: ROP-LR-LTUBE)
The Reef Octopus Replacement LED Light Tube (SKU: ROP-LR-LTUBE) is an authentic, internal OEM lighting core distributed by CoralVue to sustain natural nutrient reduction inside home reef aquariums. Macroalgae reactors function by cultivating dense tumbling columns of Chaetomorpha or Caulerpa within a self-contained canister filter. To fuel rapid growth, the algae must be continuously saturated with specialized lighting wavelengths. Because the light source sits directly down the center of the wet reactor chamber, it is subjected to high humidity, shifting temperatures, and constant water movement. Over years of operation, internal electronic diodes can naturally degrade, power wires can wear down, or micro-fissures in the outer seal can cause moisture damage. Changing out a compromised module for a fresh factory tube completely resets your reactor’s growth output.
Crafted using high-tolerance manufacturing metrics, the ROP-LR-LTUBE features an Integrated Triangular LED Strip. This three-sided geometric internal configuration forces light outward in all directions simultaneously, ensuring that the tightly packed algae mass receives uniform coverage from root to rim. Emitting a targeted spectrum calibrated specifically to trigger aggressive photosynthesis, this tube serves as the direct factory replacement for both the Light Reactor 150 (LR-150) and the larger Light Reactor 200 (LR-200). Swapping in this fresh module instantly restores your system's nutrient-binding potential—stabilizing your tank's pH lines and stripping dissolved nitrates and phosphates right out of the loop.
Key Features
Restores Peak Photosynthetic PAR Output: Replaces aged or dimmed diodes with fresh, high-output spectrums to keep your macroalgae harvesting schedules on track.
Defends Electronics Against Moisture: Protected by a rugged, clear outer barrier that keeps moisture out, maintaining a secure, low-voltage installation environment inside wet filtration cabinets.
Modular Slide-In Maintenance: Features a tool-free design that allows you to easily slide the old light stick out of the center acrylic sleeve and slide the new one right into place.
(Note: This retail box includes (1) standalone replacement LED light tube with attached wiring lead. Power supply transformers, dimming controllers, plumbing unions, internal containment plates, and full reactor bodies are sold under separate product categories).

- Unplug the light reactor power supply from the wall outlet and turn off your dedicated feed pump loop to isolate the canister chamber.
- Disconnect the barrel connector plug on the light tube wire lead from your external controller or power adapter cord.
- Locate the central sealed collar cap on the top lid of your light reactor assembly. Unthread or slide the old LED light tube assembly straight up and entirely out of the central protective quartz sleeve body.
- The Critical Sleeve Inspection: Look down into the clear dry quartz sleeve built into the center of the reactor. Check that it is completely dry and free of moisture or salt creep before dropping in the new light.
- Take your fresh ROP-LR-LTUBE out of its packaging box and slide it straight down into the center guide sleeve of the reactor lid until it seats fully against the bottom stop.
- Hand-tighten any top sealing collars, plug the wire lead back into your external power supply barrel jack, turn your feed pump back on, and restore your lighting timer schedule.
Pro Tips:
- Never Submerge the Exposed LED Light Wire Lead Directly in Your Sump Basin. While this genuine Reef Octopus replacement light tube is engineered with an advanced IP67 seal to confidently withstand internal humidity and splashing inside the dry center sleeve, it is not a fully submersible utility light strip. You should never drop the bare tube or its upper power cord connection joints directly into open water. Always make sure the tube is installed cleanly inside its built-in, dry isolation sleeve to prevent water damage or system shorts.
- Routinely Clean the Outside of the Clear Acrylic Sleeve to Stop Light Blocking. Because this replacement tube sits inside a clear dry channel surrounded by a high-flow stream of saltwater and growing algae, a film of organic slime, bacterial mulm, or white calcium scale will slowly coat the outside of the clear sleeve over time. This layer acts as a physical block that dims the light reaching your macroalgae, causing the core section of your Chaetomorpha to rot away. Every 4 to 6 weeks, lift the internal algae containment plates out and wipe down the center sleeve with a soft sponge to keep the pathways completely clear.
- Always Treat This Lighting Tube with Care to Avoid Internal Solder Cracking. The internal three-sided circuit board inside this assembly is packed with fine precision solder traces to sustain its unique triangular light spread. When sliding the replacement stick into or out of your reactor chassis during an annual deep clean, avoid twisting, flexing, or bending the tube body. Hard impacts or flexing the tube against the rim of your cabinet can crack the tiny internal copper tracking links, leading to dead sections on the light strip. Handle the tube cleanly by its upper cap during all maintenance steps.
