The HYDROS WaveEngine Direct Drive Pump Adapter (SKU: HDRS-WE-OCTPA) is an essential integration accessory engineered to bridge the gap between Reef Octopus controllable DC pumps and the unified CoralVue HYDROS automation ecosystem. In traditional reef configurations, each variable-speed wavemaker or return pump requires its own dedicated driver box, mounting cradle, and heavy electrical power brick. As you add more equipment, your aquarium cabinet quickly turns into a cluttered tangle of cords that traps heat, collects salt creep, and complicates routine maintenance. This direct connection cable completely rewrites under-cabinet layout logic by allowing the HYDROS WaveEngine to act as the primary power source and brain for your pumps.
Measuring approximately 9 inches in length, this heavy-duty adapter routes power and control signals smoothly through a single streamlined line. By bypassing the stock factory control pad and power transformer entirely, your pump hooks straight into one of the specialized high-current Direct Drive ports on a HYDROS WaveEngine or WaveEngine v2 controller. Once plugged in, your pump is automatically absorbed into the central cloud network, allowing you to synchronize return schedules with wavemaker patterns, set intelligent multi-device feed modes, and monitor live electrical diagnostics directly from your smartphone or tablet.

This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Disconnect all main power sources supplying your HYDROS WaveEngine control hub and your Reef Octopus pump from the wall outlet.
- Unplug the pump’s motor cable from its original stock Reef Octopus controller pad and set the stock driver pad and factory power brick aside.
- Take the female end of the HYDROS adapter cable, align the internal keyway pins with the male cord coming directly from your pump head, and press them firmly together.
- Thread the plastic locking collar clockwise until it is hand-tight to form a secure, waterproof seal.
- Align and insert the opposite male end of the adapter cable into an available Direct Drive port on your HYDROS WaveEngine, spinning the outer metal ring to secure it.
- Restore power to your WaveEngine, open the mobile HYDROS app, select the corresponding port, configuration layout, and assign your desired flow or return schedule.
Pro Tips:
- Confirm Your Pump Size First. Double-check your exact pump model name before implementing this system. This specific Direct Drive adapter is calibrated for 24V DC hardware, which covers the VarioS 2, VarioS 4, Octo Pulse 2, and Octo Pulse 4 lines. Larger commercial pumps like the VarioS 6 or VarioS 8 operate on a higher 36V architecture and cannot be powered directly by the WaveEngine ports; attempting to force them can cause configuration faults in your controller.
- Always Secure the Locking Rings. Never leave the compression sleeves loose after setting up your wiring layout. Sump cabinets are high-humidity zones subject to continuous salt spray and evaporation. Spinning the locking rings completely down compresses an internal rubber gasket that acts as a shield for the metal conductor pins, preventing corrosion and accidental short-circuits.
- Label the Cables Prior to Installation. If you are taking advantage of a WaveEngine to drive multiple pumps under your tank simultaneously, put a small piece of colored waterproof tape or a label maker tag on the adapter line before tucking it behind your equipment wall. When all your equipment runs into a single central control unit, having clear labels makes it much easier to isolate lines during pump cleanings or winter maintenance checks.
