Maxspect XF250/350 & IceCap 3K/4K Gyre Protective Covers
SKU: GP-MC-150
- Direct OEM Gyre Fit: Precision-engineered protective mesh sleeves designed specifically for Maxspect Gyre XF150, XF250, and XF350, as well as IceCap 3K and 4K wavemakers.
- Essential Livestock Protection: Shields roaming bubble-tip anemones (BTAs), grazing snails, hermit crabs, nudibranchs, and small reef fish from contact with high-speed spinning crossflow rotors.
- Preserves Laminar Flow Dynamics: Fine, porous mesh fabric allows broad gyre flow distribution without significantly choking pump flow velocity or creating dead spots.
- Prevents Motor Seizure & Damage: Keeps floating algae strands, macroalgae fragments, and shell fragments from entering rotor cages and jamming motor bushings.
- Easy Slip-On Installation: Elasticized sleeve design slides directly over directional cage shrouds for fast removal, rinsing, and reinstallation during routine pump maintenance.

Maxspect & IceCap Gyre Protective Mesh Covers
Crossflow gyre pumps create wide, laminar water movement across the entire aquarium, but their exposed, spinning barrel rotors pose a severe hazard to wandering invertebrates. Anemones moving to find higher light or snails grazing on bio-film can be sucked into standard cage slats, resulting in livestock loss, water clouding, and jammed pump motors. The Maxspect XF250/350 & IceCap 3K/4K Protective Covers (SKU: GP-MC-150) are the official OEM fine-mesh sleeve guards engineered specifically for Maxspect Gyre and IceCap Gyre Wavemakers.
Fabricated from a resilient, marine-safe woven mesh, the GP-MC-150 sleeves slide directly over the outer directional flow cages of the pump. The open-mesh weave acts as an effective physical barrier against creeping anemones, small clownfish, sea hares, and snail shells, while allowing water to pass smoothly through the rotor blades. By keeping debris and mobile animals out of the rotating assemblies, these protective sleeves also shield the ceramic bearings, motor shaft, and magnetic drive from sudden mechanical shock and motor burnouts caused by locked rotors.
Ideal Replacement Scenario
If you keep roaming anemones (such as Bubble Tip, Carpets, or Rock Flower anemones), small or delicate reef fish, or active grazing snails, or if your original Gyre mesh sleeves have torn, stretched out, or become fouled with calcium deposits, installing an authentic pair of GP-MC-150 covers provides essential tank safety and peace of mind.

Installation & Maintenance Guidelines:
Turn off or pause the gyre pump using its controller or power supply before servicing.
Remove the pump from the aquarium glass mount and lift it to a clean workspace.
Clean the plastic directional cages and outer shroud surfaces of any macroalgae or coralline crust.
Stretch the elasticized end of one GP-MC-150 mesh sleeve gently and slide it completely over one rotor cage until it covers all intake and exhaust slats.
Repeat the process for the opposite rotor cage with the second mesh cover.
Verify that the mesh rests flat along the cage ribs without binding or pressing inward against the spinning internal rotor blades.
Submerge the pump back into position on the aquarium glass, re-engage the magnetic mount, and restore electrical power.
Pro Tips:
- Rinse in Freshwater Every 1–2 Weeks to Prevent Flow Reduction. Because the mesh sleeves trap particulate matter, uneaten fish food, and filamentous algae before it enters the pump, they naturally collect debris over time. To maintain maximum water velocity, slide the mesh sleeves off during routine water changes, rinse them vigorously under tap water or soak them in diluted citric acid to dissolve calcified deposits, and slip them back on.
- Keep Spare Sleeves on Hand for Instant Rotation. Rather than waiting for covers to soak, clean, and dry during maintenance, keep an extra set of GP-MC-150 sleeves in your fish room supplies. You can swap fresh sleeves onto the pump in seconds while soaking the dirty set in cleaning solution, ensuring continuous anemone protection with zero pump downtime.
