IceCap Small PRO Magnetic Coral Frag Rack — 8 Holes (SKU: IC-FR8R)
The IceCap Small PRO 8 Magnetic Coral Frag Rack (SKU: IC-FR8R) is an authentic, high-stability propagation shelf distributed by CoralVue to bring professional order and structural security to custom reef systems, frag grow-out setups, and quarantine tanks. In high-flow reef aquariums, unanchored coral frags are constantly at risk. Standard propagation racks feature loose, oversized drill holes that allow standard plugs to rattle in high currents or tumble like dominoes whenever a curious snail or hermit crab crawls over them. When a loose frag falls upside down onto the sand bed or lands on a neighboring colony, it can suffer tissue necrosis, chemical burns, or complete mortality. The IceCap PRO Frag Rack eliminates these alignment risks entirely by using a specialized plug-gripping framework.
The standout feature of the IC-FR8R is its integrated Flexible Gripping Membrane Array. Each of the 8 precision-cut holes is lined with a durable, form-fitting silicone membrane insert that actively pinches the plug stem once inserted. This flexible gasket self-adjusts to securely hold stems up to 3/8-inch in diameter, meaning mismatched, thick, or irregular plugs from different coral aquaculture facilities will sit perfectly level and secure. Constructed from high-tensile, reef-safe cast acrylic with a sleek dark aesthetic, the rack virtually disappears against the side or rear walls of your tank. Held firmly in place by heavy-duty rare-earth magnets rated for glass walls up to 1/2-inch thick, this compact shelf provides an exceptional foundation for acclimating new frags to your light and flow settings.
Key Features
Prevents Demolition Derby Falls: The smart silicone membrane locks plug stems tight, ensuring curious invertebrates won't displace or knock over your corals.
Improves Lighting Acclimation Control: The magnetic sliding mount lets you position new, light-sensitive frags near the bottom of your tank and slowly move them upward over time.
Zero Chemical or Metal Leaching: Built with fully encapsulated resin-dipped magnets and high-grade acrylic to ensure complete safety in sensitive coral systems.
(Note: This retail package includes (1) Small PRO 8-Hole Frag Rack shelf and (1) pre-sealed external magnetic clamping backing pad. Coral frag plugs and adhesive gels are sold under separate product categories).

Unbox your IceCap Small PRO 8 Frag Rack. Check over the smooth acrylic edges and make sure the internal flexible plug-locking membranes are seated properly within each cutout.
Clean both the inside and outside glass surfaces of your targeted mounting location. Warning: Any trapped sand particles or hard calcified lines beneath the magnet blocks can scratch your aquarium glass when moved.
Submerge the internal acrylic shelf into your water column, keeping it firmly against the interior glass face at your preferred light and flow level.
The Clamping Phase: Bring the external dry-side magnetic pad slowly toward the outside glass panel opposite the submerged shelf. Warning: Neodymium magnets snap together with extreme force. Never slam the dry side directly onto the glass; instead, slide it gently from the side to prevent fracturing the tank walls or pinching your fingers.
Take your coral frag plugs and push their stems straight down through the flexible membrane holes. Give them a light twist to ensure the internal silicone gasket has firmly gripped the stem.
To adjust your rack's position to dial in lighting or flow settings, grip the inside and outside magnets firmly and slide the assembly slowly across your glass panel.
Pro Tips:
- Slide—Never Snap—the Dry Magnet to Avoid Cracking Your Aquarium Glass. The neodymium magnetic nodes packed within the IC-FR8R structure are exceptionally powerful. When mounting the rack or repositioning it on a nano tank, always hold the external dry magnet firmly and slide it into position from an upper or side edge. Allowing the magnets to snap together flat against the glass can cause stress fractures on thin panels or pinch your skin.
- Utilize the Sliding Grip to Easily Acclimate Sensitive SPS Corals to Intense Lighting. When bringing home new high-end SPS or LPS frags from a local swap or store, placing them directly under intense LED lighting can cause photo-bleaching and tissue damage. Use the magnetic flexibility of the IceCap PRO rack to your advantage. Start by mounting the rack low in your water column for the first week, then slowly slide it up the glass an inch or two every few days until your corals adapt to your display's primary lighting zone.
- Give the Membranes a Quick Soft Brush Clean Between Coral Frag Rotations. While the dark acrylic frame is designed to blend into the background, the internal flexible silicone membranes can gather a light layer of detritus or film algae over several months of continuous use. Whenever you clear out a batch of frags, take the rack to your sink and give the internal holes a gentle scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush under fresh RO/DI water. This clears out organic film buildup and keeps the silicone pliable and grippy for your next batch of frags.
