    • Enhance flow efficiency in your reef system by reducing friction and backpressure.
    • Precision-molded 45° angle provides a smoother water transition than sharp 90° bends
    • Specifically sized for 20mm metric PVC pipe (approx. 0.75" OD), common in Reef Octopus skimmers
    • Industrial-grade grey PVC construction designed for high-pressure aquarium applications
    • Slip-fit sockets provide a secure, permanent connection via standard solvent welding
    • Ideal For: Skimmer modifications; manifold plumbing; return line routing in metric systems

    20mm Metric 45° Elbow Fitting

The 20mm Metric 45° Elbow is a professional-grade plumbing component designed for precision water routing in marine and freshwater systems. This fitting is sized for 20mm Metric PVC pipe, which is the standard plumbing diameter for many medium-sized Reef Octopus protein skimmers, calcium reactors, and European-spec aquarium equipment.

Using 45-degree elbows is a hallmark of high-performance aquarium plumbing. By avoiding the harsh turbulence created by 90-degree turns, you maintain higher water velocity and reduce the "head pressure" on your return or recirculation pumps. This results in a quieter system and more efficient equipment performance. Constructed from high-impact, saltwater-safe grey PVC, this elbow features smooth internal walls to prevent detritus trap and deep sockets for a reliable, leak-proof solvent weld.

    Key Features

    • True Metric Sizing: Fits 20mm OD metric pipe—perfect for Reef Octopus and Maxspect equipment repairs.
    • Flow-Optimized Geometry: 45° angle allows for gradual direction changes, preserving pump flow rates.
    • Industrial Durability: Heavy-walled PVC construction resists cracking and impact in under-cabinet environments.
    • Safe for Aquatic Life: Made from non-toxic materials that will not leach chemicals into your reef or freshwater system.
    • Seamless Bore: Ensures minimal resistance and prevents air bubbles from becoming trapped in the plumbing.

    Ideal For

    • Reef Octopus Skimmer Repair: Replacing or custom-modifying internal and external skimmer plumbing.
    • Custom Manifolds: Creating neat, efficient plumbing runs for reactors and UV sterilizers.
    • Metric-to-Metric Connections: Essential for aquarists using European or Asian manufactured tanks and sumps.

    What’s Included: • (1) 20mm Metric 45° Elbow Fitting

    Specifications:
    • Size: 20mm
    • Angle: 45 Degrees
    • Connection Type: Slip x Slip (Socket)
    • Material: High-grade Grey PVC
    • Compatibility: 20mm Metric Pipe ONLY

    • Ensure your 20mm metric pipe is cut straight and any burrs are removed from the edges.
    • Dry-fit the pipe into the 45° elbow to check for proper alignment.
    • Apply a thin layer of PVC primer to the pipe end and the inside of the elbow socket.
    • Apply PVC solvent cement to both the pipe and the fitting socket.
    • Insert the pipe into the elbow with a quick 1/4 turn to ensure the glue is evenly spread.
    • Hold the joint together for 15–20 seconds. Allow to cure for at least 1 hour before running water.

    Pro Tips
    Metric vs. Standard.
A 20mm metric fitting will not fit 1/2" or 3/4" USA standard Schedule 40 pipe. 20mm is roughly 0.78 inches, making it just slightly larger than 1/2" pipe (0.84" OD). Always use a caliper to confirm your pipe size before ordering.

Create a "Long Sweep." To maximize flow in tight spaces, use two 20mm 45° elbows back-to-back. This creates a much smoother curve than a single 90° elbow and can significantly reduce the "gurgling" noise often heard in skimmer return lines.

Use the right glue. Because this is grey metric PVC, standard clear PVC cement works perfectly. However, for the cleanest look, use a clear primer rather than purple primer to maintain the professional appearance of your plumbing.
