- Ensure both 63mm metric pipe ends are cut perfectly square and thoroughly deburred.
- Clean the pipe ends and the internal sockets of the coupling with a dedicated PVC cleaner.
- Apply a layer of PVC primer to both the pipe ends and the inside of the coupling to soften the material.
- Apply a liberal coat of heavy-duty PVC solvent cement to both the pipe and the coupling sockets.
- Push the pipes into the coupling until they hit the center stop, giving a slight quarter-turn to ensure even glue distribution.
- Hold firmly for 60 seconds. Allow at least 6 hours to cure before introducing high-pressure water.
Pro Tips:
- Metric vs. Standard 2.5-Inch. A 63mm metric coupling will not fit standard US 2.5-inch pipe. 63mm is approximately 2.48 inches, while standard US 2.5-inch pipe has a 2.875-inch OD. Always verify your pipe diameter with a caliper before beginning a permanent solvent weld.
- Proper Priming. On 63mm and larger pipes, the surface area is vast. Proper priming is essential to ensure the solvent cement can create a true "chemical weld." Use clear primer to keep the joint looking clean and professional.
- The Union Alternative. If you are repairing a 63mm line that is rigid and cannot be pulled apart, a standard coupling is almost impossible to install. In these cases, use a 63mm Metric Union which allows you to drop the repair piece into place and tighten the collar.
