20mm Metric Standard Coupling
SKU: PVC-CPLG-20
- Permanent Connection: Designed to join two lengths of 20mm metric pipe with a high-strength, leak-proof solvent weld.
- Precision Metric Fit: Sized specifically for 20mm metric pipe (approx. 0.78" OD), the standard for Reef Octopus internal plumbing and reactor feeds.
- Internal Pipe Stop: Features a molded center ridge to ensure both pipe ends are inserted to equal depths for maximum structural integrity.
- Industrial UPVC: Constructed from heavy-walled grey UPVC, offering superior durability over standard white residential fittings.
- Saltwater Safe: 100% non-corrosive and chemically inert; safe for sensitive coral reef and specialized freshwater systems.
- Ideal For: Extending 20mm pipe runs; manifold construction; repairing small-diameter recirculating lines.
Reef Octopus
Globally trusted for premium protein skimmers and pumps, engineered in-house for unmatched reef filtration performance.
20mm Metric Standard Coupling
The 20mm Metric Standard Coupling is a professional-grade straight joiner engineered for the permanent connection of small-diameter plumbing in modern aquarium systems. Precision-molded for 20mm Metric PVC pipe, this fitting is a fundamental component for assembling and modifying Reef Octopus protein skimmers, media reactors, and custom manifold systems.
In high-end reef plumbing, a secure and streamlined connection is vital. This coupling features deep sockets that provide an extensive surface area for solvent welding, resulting in a joint that is often stronger than the pipe itself. Manufactured from industrial-grade grey UPVC, it provides a clean, professional aesthetic that matches factory-spec European filtration equipment. The internal center stop ensures perfect alignment during assembly, preventing internal gaps that could cause turbulence or trap debris.
Key Features
True Metric Calibration: Fits 20mm OD metric pipe—essential for maintaining factory Reef Octopus and European-spec hardware.
Full Flow Design: The internal bore matches the pipe diameter, ensuring zero restriction and maintaining optimal water velocity.
Saltwater Resistant: 100% non-metallic; will not rust, degrade, or leach harmful substances into the water column.
High-Impact Build: Engineered to withstand the vibrations and pressure of dedicated aquarium pumps.
Deep Socket Sockets: Provides a massive bonding area for a secure, permanent chemical weld.
Ideal For
Reactor Feed Lines: Extending or repairing 20mm lines for calcium reactors and carbon reactors.
Skimmer Customization: Modifying internal recirculating loops on Reef Octopus skimmers.
Compact Plumbing: Joining 20mm pipe sections in tight cabinet spaces where larger fittings won't fit.

What’s Included:
(1) 20mm Metric Standard Coupling
Specifications:
Size: 20mm
Connection Type: Slip x Slip (Socket)
Material: Industrial Grade Grey UPVC
Compatibility: 20mm Metric Pipe ONLY
- Ensure both 20mm metric pipe ends are cut square and thoroughly deburred.
- Clean the pipe ends and the internal sockets of the coupling with PVC cleaner.
- Apply a thin layer of PVC primer to both the pipe ends and the inside of the coupling.
- Apply PVC solvent cement to the pipe and the coupling sockets.
- Push the pipes into the coupling until they meet the center stop, giving a slight quarter-turn to distribute the cement.
- Hold firmly for 20–30 seconds. Allow at least 1 hour to cure before introducing water pressure.
Pro Tips:
- Metric vs. Standard. A 20mm metric coupling will not fit 1/2" or 3/4" USA standard pipe. 20mm is approximately 0.78 inches. Always verify your pipe diameter with a caliper to ensure you are working with metric components.
- The Professional Look. To maintain the high-end industrial look of your grey UPVC plumbing, use clear PVC primer rather than the common purple variety. This prevents messy stains and keeps your sump area looking like a factory installation.
- Repair Strategy. When repairing a leak in a tight spot, ensure you have enough "play" in the pipe to slide the coupling on. If the pipes are rigid, you may need to use a 20mm Metric Union instead of a standard coupling to facilitate the repair without cutting more pipe.
