Pro Tips:
- Verify Your Valve Size First. Reef Octopus manufactures output valves in multiple sizes that look identical in photos. The 63mm valve is engineered exclusively for large commercial skimmer cylinders (like the XP-8000 and SRO-8000 models). If you own an 8-inch to 12-inch consumer skimmer body (such as an SRO-3000 or 5000), your plumbing will require the smaller 50mm gate valve variant. For 4-inch to 6-inch bodies, look to the 40mm gate valve. Always measure the outside diameter of your pipe with calipers before purchasing.
- Do Not Glue if Upgrading a Modular Footprint. If your skimmer utilizes modular, friction-fit slip pipes that lock together with tight o-rings, do not use permanent PVC cement to install this valve. Simply slide the valve tightly onto the metric pipe ends. Leaving the connection as a secure friction-fit allows you to rotate the valve body to accommodate tight sump corners or completely disassemble the drain line when doing deep citric acid gear cleanings.
