2in White 45 Degree PVC Fitting
SKU: RF-124520WS
- Low-Resistance 45-Degree Angle: Redirects large fluid streams at a smooth 45-degree angle, significantly lowering directional friction loss and pump backpressure compared to sharp 90-degree elbows.
- Dual Smooth Slip Sockets: Configured with 2" female slip (socket) connections on both ends, designed to cleanly accept standard 2" rigid or flexible Schedule 40/80 PVC pipes.
- Aquarium-Grade White Finish: Provides a bright, clean look that coordinates seamlessly with modern professional marine sump networks and custom plumbing manifolds.
- Non-Toxic & Safe for Aquatic Life: Fully certified lead-free and chemical-stable, making it perfectly safe for freshwater aquariums, sensitive marine reef sumps, and hydroponic setups.
- Smooth Internal Glaze Finish: Features a polished internal wall track that minimizes detritus collection, organic sludge buildup, and calcium scaling.
CoralVue 2 Inch White PVC 45-Degree Slip x Slip Elbow Fitting
The CoralVue 2 Inch White PVC 45-Degree Slip x Slip Elbow Fitting (SKU: RF-124520WS) is an essential high-volume fluid management component engineered to create smooth, gradual directional shifts within heavy-duty aquarium plumbing loops, main sump drain lines, closed-loop manifolds, and custom reef filtration systems. When constructing high-performance marine networks, minimizing friction head loss is critical to maximizing your system's actual flow rate. Large-diameter 2-inch pipe lines are typically used for high-volume gravity drains or massive main pump loops. Standard sharp 90-degree elbows force this large, heavy stream of water into an abrupt wall collision, generating heavy backpressure, localized siphon gargling noise, and noticeable harmonic pipe vibration. By breaking a directional turn into a gradual 45-degree pathway, this specialized aquarium fitting helps fluid maintain its kinetic velocity, keeping your system's overall turnover highly efficient and running whisper-quiet.
Molded to exact aquatic distribution standards, this fitting features a dual slip socket configuration (also known as a socket x socket connection). Both internal ports are precision-tapered to slide smoothly over standard 2" domestic Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe walls. When bonded with professional PVC primer and solvent cement, the fitting forms an absolute chemical weld that completely eliminates leak risks. Its clean, high-purity white compound profile ensures full compatibility with standard marine plumbing lines, giving your filtration array a professional, bright, and organized appearance.
Key Features
Gradual Angle Layout: Significantly lowers dynamic head loss, reducing stress on return pump impellers and expanding total open turnover capabilities on high-volume drain tracks.
Permanent Solvent-Weld Sockets: Tapered internal socket walls ensure a snug dry-fit before glue application, ensuring deep, secure primer coverage and full glue-weld depth.
Aquarium and Hydroponic Safe: Fired without plasticizers or volatile heavy metal stabilizers, ensuring it will never leach harmful chemicals into sensitive marine coral or freshwater fish systems.

- Cut your 2" PVC pipe cleanly at a true 90-degree angle using a dedicated wheel-cutter or fine-tooth saw. Remove all plastic burrs from the cut edge with sandpaper or a deburring tool.
- Test the connection by dry-fitting the pipe into the 45-degree elbow socket. The pipe should insert easily about halfway to two-thirds of the way down the socket track before tightening up.
- Clean the outside tip of the pipe and the internal socket walls of the 45-degree elbow with a dry rag to clear away all dust, moisture, and cutting debris.
- Apply a uniform layer of clear or purple PVC primer to the inside of the elbow socket and the outside edge of the pipe where it will sit inside the fitting.
- While the primer is still wet, apply an even coat of PVC solvent cement over the primed pipe end and a thin layer inside the fitting socket.
- Push the pipe firmly into the 45-degree elbow socket until it hits the bottom shelf. Give it a quick 1/4 turn to evenly spread the cement matrix, and hold it firmly in place for 15 seconds to prevent the pipe from pushing out as the glue cures.
Pro Tips:
- Use Dual 45s Instead of a Single 90 to Avoid Flow Choke Points.
CRITICAL AQUARIUM PLUMBING DESIGN TIP: If your sump cabinet layout requires you to route pipe loops around a tight corner or glass support rim, avoid using a single sharp 90-degree elbow. Instead, connect two 45-degree elbows back-to-back separated by a short piece of pipe. This configuration forms a broad, sweeping curve that preserves your pump's flow velocity and keeps your return lines running completely quiet.
- Never Skip the Priming Stage on New Layout Assembly. When gluing white PVC components, always use a dedicated PVC primer before adding your solvent cement. Skipping the primer phase to save time leaves the glossy exterior shell of the PVC slick and untouched. The primer chemically micro-softens the plastic surface, allowing the cement to dissolve and fuse both layers together into a permanent, structural weld.
- Allow a Full 24-Hour Cure Before Running Saltwater Pressure Tests. Even though solvent cement sets up physically firm within a few minutes, do not run full pump pressure tests or run system water through the line immediately. Wait at least 2 to 4 hours for low-pressure lines, and a full 24 hours for main display return loops. Running chemical saltwater through partially cured joints can weaken the structural integrity of the joint, leading to micro-leaks or complete blowouts later on.
