CoralVue 2in White Slip PVC Union (SKU: RF-1220WS)
The CoralVue 2" White Slip PVC Union (SKU: RF-1220WS) is an indispensable, commercial-grade plumbing component engineered to add modularity and ease-of-service to your aquarium's fluid management system. Hard-plumbed systems offer unmatched security, but they can quickly become a maintenance nightmare when a return pump fails or a UV sterilizer requires sleeve cleaning. By installing this true union directly inline before and after your main equipment pieces, you gain the ability to completely isolate and slide out heavy components in seconds by simply unscrewing the threaded collar nut by hand.
Precision molded from premium, high-impact unplasticized white PVC, this fitting features 2" female slip sockets on both ends. It is designed to host standard 2-inch Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 rigid PVC piping via a traditional solvent-weld connection. Inside the union, a heavy-walled groove nests a premium, saltwater-resistant EPDM rubber O-ring. As you tighten the central collar, the O-ring is compressed perfectly flat against the mating flange, creating a watertight seal that handles high-pressure pump loops and persistent system vibration with ease.
Key Features
Tool-Free Maintenance: Wide, ridged collar nut provides maximum grip for effortless hand-tightening and quick-release operations under the aquarium cabinet.
Symmetrical Flanges: Dual slip sockets allow for easy alignment and uniform socket depth, ensuring stress-free installation into rigid pipe layouts.
Excellent Structural Integrity: Thick, industrial wall profile resists cracking, thermal expansion, and mechanical stress under standard continuous water loads.

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.
- Ensure both 2-inch rigid pipes are cut square at a 90-degree angle and completely deburred.
- Crucial: Unscrew the central union collar nut and slide it onto one of your pipe runs before gluing the slip inserts. If you glue both slip ends onto the pipes first, you will not be able to thread the collar nut back on.
- Clean both pipe ends and the union's inner sockets with a dry cloth. Apply PVC primer to the inside of the slip inserts and the outside of both pipe ends.
- Apply PVC solvent cement over the primed areas and insert the pipes fully into the socket inserts, turning them 1/4 turn to spread the glue. Hold firmly for 15 seconds.
- Once the solvent weld has set, check that the EPDM O-ring is seated completely flat and centered in its receiving groove.
- Align the two mating faces of the union and slide the collar nut over the joint. Thread the collar clockwise onto the receiving threads by hand.
- Hand-tighten the collar until snug. Do not use pipe wrenches or channel locks to tighten the collar, as over-tightening can warp the O-ring or crack the PVC threads.
Pro Tips:
- Never Skip the O-Ring Alignment Check.
CRITICAL AQUARIUM SAFETY WARNING: Always verify that the EPDM O-ring is sitting perfectly flat in its recessed groove before hand-tightening the union collar. If the O-ring gets pinched, twisted, or displaced during assembly, the compression seal will fail, causing slow, continuous capillary leaks directly onto your electronics or cabinet floor.
- Lightly Lubricate the O-Ring for the Best Seal. To extend the life of your EPDM O-ring and ensure an absolutely airtight seal, apply a very thin smear of 100% pure silicone grease (such as Molykote 111 or plumber's silicone grease) to the ring before assembly. This prevents the rubber from sticking, drying out, or twisting when the collar nut is being tightened. Never use petroleum-based lubricants (like Vaseline), as they will chemically degrade the rubber.
- Support Pipe Weight Around the Union. While 2-inch true unions are built robustly, they should not bear the physical weight of long, unsupported horizontal or vertical runs. Always place pipe straps or hanging brackets within 12 inches of either side of the union to prevent bending stresses from warping the internal seal or putting leverage strain on your return pump nozzles.
