- Verify the structural hole opening. For these heavy-walled polypropylene bulkhead casings, verify the drilled space measures a clean 2" to 2-1/8" in diameter and is completely smooth.
- Wipe down the tank area surrounding the pass-through hole inside and out. Ensure the sealing footprint is totally clear of salt creep, calcified film, acrylic chips, or grit.
- Slide the thick rubber EPDM compression gasket over the threaded body shaft, ensuring it sits flat and un-twisted against the wide front flange face shoulder.
- Pass the threaded shaft through the hole from the inside of the tank layout. The broad flange face and rubber gasket MUST sit on the wet water side of the wall. The hard nut always spins onto the dry exterior wall.
- Thread the hard polypropylene hex locknut onto the external body shaft. Spin it counter-clockwise (due to the reverse-threaded security tracks) until it rests flat against the dry exterior structure.
- Hand-tighten the nut as firmly as possible, then use an adjustable bulkhead wrench to apply an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Do not over-torque past this point to prevent damaging the tank wall material.

- Gasket Placement Rule: The Sealing Ring Always Seats on the Flange Side.
CRITICAL COMMERCIAL PLUMBING WARNING: Regardless of whether you mount this fitting vertically through a reservoir floor or horizontally through a vertical filtration wall, the thick rubber gasket must always rest between the wide molded bulkhead flange and the tank wall. Never place the compression gasket on the exterior side with the spinning locknut. Turning the hard plastic nut directly against a dry rubber ring will warp, pinch, or tear the seal, leading to an immediate and permanent leak.
- Wrap Male Thread Inserts with 2-3 Wraps of Thread Tape—No Solvent Cement! When threading your hard pipelines into the internal 1" FPT sockets, always select high-quality male threaded (MPT) fittings. Wrap the male components cleanly with 2 to 3 layers of premium Teflon thread tape before assembly. Because this unit is molded from high-density polypropylene, never use liquid PVC primers or solvent glues on these connections. Solvent glue will not bond to polypropylene; instead, it will melt the thread valleys, ruining the fitting and causing structural seal failure.
- Hand-Tighten Plus 1/2 Turn Max—Avoid Heavy Liquid Teflon Dopes. Because these deep-molded internal thread channels are engineered with high precision, you do not need massive mechanical wrenches to force a water-tight seal. Avoid packing the threads with thick layers of industrial paste pipe dopes. Over-wrapping or using high-leverage metal pipe tools can create a powerful mechanical wedge action inside the bulkhead, which can split the heavy-duty polypropylene wall right down its factory molding seams.
