IceCap Adjustable RO/DI Reservoir Float Valve (IC-RI-FV01)

The IceCap Adjustable RO Float Valve (SKU: IC-RI-FV01) is an essential, high-utility passive plumbing fail-safe distributed by CoralVue to automate water production, eliminate costly room floor floods, and streamline storage tank management. Producing high-purity water through a multi-stage RO/DI filtration layout is a time-intensive process that can take hours to fill large reservoirs. Forgetting to manually turn off the feed line is a common oversight that leads to spilled water and structural floor damage. The IC-RI-FV01 removes this risk entirely, acting as a mechanical gatekeeper that cuts off incoming pure water the instant your holding bucket, structural mixing tower, or open filtration sump reaches maximum capacity.

What distinguishes this premium float mechanism from standard industrial valves is its flexible, adjustable hinge arm. In legacy configurations, changing the stopping depth meant drilling an entirely new hole into the thick wall of your polyethylene trash barrel or acrylic sump. With the IceCap design, you simply loosen the integrated 18-8 stainless steel wing nut, adjust the buoyant cylindrical body up or down to match your seasonal requirements, and lock it back into place. The inlet port features a native 1/4-inch push-connect fitting, enabling you to plug your standard blue product line straight into the valve body with zero threading, pipe paste, or brass sleeves required.

    Key Features

    • Positive Pressure Isolation: Heavy-duty internal mechanical leverage works with the rising buoyancy of the float bulb to completely stop water flow, tested to withstand input pressures up to 100 PSI.

    • Santoprene Gasket Compounding: Advanced synthetic rubber seal resists degradation from chlorine, ozone, or chemical spikes, ensuring a reliable seal over multiple seasons.

    • Versatile Container Mounting: Compact 5.7-inch horizontal frame fits neatly into containers of various shapes and sizes, from simple 5-gallon pails to large 200-gallon commercial aquaculture mixing stations.

    • (Note: This replacement accessory includes the single adjustable float valve, its matching polymer wall jam nut, and one soft silicone flange seal ring. Rigid poly tubing lines and high-pressure auto-shutoff valves are sold separately).

    1. Select your target water height along your plastic storage container, marking a clean center point at least 2 inches below the upper structural rim lip.
    2. Use a standard 1/2-inch drill bit or hole saw to drill a clean, burr-free entry hole straight through the marked plastic barrel wall.
    3. Ensure the soft rubber compression gasket is pushed flat against the threaded shoulder flange of the float valve before inserting the threads through the hole from the inside out.
    4. Thread the heavy-gauge plastic jam nut clockwise onto the exterior exposed thread lines, hand-tightening the nut firmly until the gasket compresses flat against the inner wall. Note: Do not use metal pipe wrenches.
    5. Take your standard 1/4-inch blue RO product line, trim the end perfectly square using a razor blade, and push the line straight into the inlet quick-connect collar until it locks.
    6. Loosen the stainless steel arm wing nut, adjust the buoyant bulb to your preferred horizontal cutoff height profile, and tighten the wing nut firmly back down.
    • Pair This Valve with an ASOV Under-Sink Block to Stop Waste Water Drainage. A mechanical float valve is only half of an automated system. When the float rises and closes the product line, it creates physical backpressure inside the tube. If your core RO/DI purification unit does not have an Auto Shut-Off Valve (ASOV) and a matching inline check valve installed on the membrane housing, your system will continue to waste water. The unit will endlessly run tap water through the pre-filters and out the red waste line directly into your home drain, even though the float has stopped the clean water line. Always make sure your RO/DI unit features an active ASOV block.
    • Always Cut Your Polyethylene Water Lines with a Clean, Square Razor Drop. When feeding your 1/4-inch plastic tubing lines into the push-connect collar of this float valve, avoid using wire cutters, blunt workshop snips, or standard scissors. These everyday tools squeeze the line as they cut, leaving a slightly flattened, oval-shaped edge. Pushing an uneven or jagged line into the quick-connect port will warp the internal metal grab-teeth and inner O-ring, causing a slow, persistent leak under pressure. Always use a dedicated pipe cutter or a fresh razor blade to create a clean, square edge.
    • Inspect the Float Arm Joint for Calcium Calcification Every Few Months. Because mixing reservoirs and sumps are subject to high humidity and salt spray, fine mineral dust and evaporated calcium carbonate will naturally deposit across the float arm hinge over time. If a thick mineral scale builds up unnoticed, it can freeze the plastic pivot joint in place, preventing the arm from floating upward when the water rises. Make it a habit to quickly wiggle the arm up and down by hand during your monthly reservoir cleanings to ensure the pivot moves freely.
