Reef Octopus Classic HOB Replacement Black Holding Bracket (Triangular Hanger)
The Reef Octopus HOB Black Holding Bracket is a genuine factory-direct OEM replacement structural stabilization component distributed by CoralVue to preserve the balance and alignment of your hang-on back filtration layout. On high-capacity external HOB protein skimmers, the main filtration chamber sits entirely on the outside of the aquarium frame, cantilevered over the floor. Because units like the BH1000 and BH2000 series hold a significant volume of moving water alongside powerful external Aquatrance pumps, the distribution of weight puts continuous physical torque on the narrow upper lip of the tank glass. This specialized black triangular holding bracket slides directly underneath the skimmer floor plate, bridging the gap between the lower acrylic chamber walls and the vertical exterior panel of your aquarium display.
Equipped with an integrated adjustable leveling thumbscrew channel, this structural brace acts as a mechanical lever to fine-tune the posture of the filter body. Over long-term operation, if a skimmer hangs tilted too far forward or backward, the internal water column becomes unbalanced, causing erratic bubbling dynamics, microbubble escape lines into the display, and sudden collection cup overflows. Over years of equipment service, these brackets can be misplaced during structural house moves, or the plastic leveling threads can snap if the skimmer is accidentally bumped during heavy tank cleaning. Installing a fresh factory holding bracket guarantees your skimmer body stays perfectly perpendicular to the floor, ensuring reliable skim performance and maximum safety for your home flooring.
Key Features
True Factory Sizing Profile: Sized strictly to meet original factory specifications to fit seamlessly inside the molded slide tracks of the HOB series.
Triangular Load-Bearing Profile: Distributes heavy canted weight safely away from fragile upper aquarium rims and channels the force smoothly down the strong flat pane of the rear glass.
Saltwater-Safe Formulation: Fabricated from robust, non-leaching, non-degrading polymers that effortlessly resist aggressive salt creep, high humidity, and splashing.
Precise Pivot Stabilization: Restores the exact geometric clearance required to keep heavy external pumps from rattling directly against your tank wall.
Verified Hardware Compatibility
Reef Octopus Classic HOB Series: Sized explicitly as the correct replacement triangle hanger for the Classic 1000HOB (BH-1000) and Classic 2000HOB (BH-2000) hang-on back skimmer frames.

Technical Specs:
Official Manufacturing Title: Reef Octopus HOB Black Holding Bracket
Structural Shape Configuration: Triangular Wall-Spanning Leveling Block
Material Composition: Dense High-Impact Injection-Molded Structural Polymer
Primary Colorway: Marine Black Finish
Primary Function: External Skimmer Leveling & Cantilever Torque Alleviation
- Turn off your hang-on back skimmer's pump to completely stop active water movement before adjusting the skimmer's physical mount.
- Carefully place a hand under the main skimmer body to support its weight, lifting it slightly away from the rear tank glass pane.
- Slide the old, damaged, or stripped black triangle holding bracket out of the molded slot tracks located on the underside of the skimmer body base.
- Clean the attachment track area with a soft damp towel to clear out any dried salt creep, coralline build-up, or accumulated dust.
- Align your new ROP replacement holding bracket with the mounting track and slide it firmly into place until it seats tightly.
- Gently lower the skimmer back down, insert your leveling nylon screw through the bracket hole, and turn it until the skimmer column sits perfectly vertical.
- Never Force Your Skimmer Against the Glass Without This Bracket. If you lose this holding bracket during a tank transfer, do not hang the skimmer back up over your tank rim bare. Operating the skimmer without this support triangle causes the heavy bottom of the filter to swing inward against the glass, placing massive point-load stress on the upper rim trim. This imbalance can crack the clear acrylic skimmer brackets or, worse, fracture your aquarium's glass panel under continuous pump vibration.
- Level the Water Column to Prevent Skimmer Flooding. When installing your new bracket, use a small bubble level placed directly on top of your skimmer collection cup lid. Turn the bracket's adjustment thumbscrew slowly until the bubble rests perfectly centered. If the skimmer body leans crookedly to either side, the active foam column inside the neck will climb up unevenly, causing one side of the neck to pack with dry organic waste while the low side continuously dumps watery, un-concentrated liquid into your collection cup.
- Keep an Eye out for Vibrational Cabinet Hum. If your skimmer starts making an annoying, low-frequency buzzing noise against the back wall after installing the new bracket, check the tip of your leveling screw. If the bare plastic screw head is pressed hard against clean dry glass, it can act as an acoustic amplifier for the pump. To silence it instantly, place a tiny square of silicone rubber padding or a single piece of electrical tape right where the bracket's leveling tip meets the aquarium glass.
