CoralVue 5 Gallon Heavy-Duty Mixing Jug with Lid
Managing fresh RO/DI water and mixing precise batches of saltwater are foundational tasks for successful reef aquarium upkeep. The CoralVue 5 Gallon Heavy-Duty Mixing Jug (SKU: CV-JUG5G) is a premium, professional-grade utility vessel designed to replace awkward orange hardware store buckets with a secure, highly accurate fluid management tool. Standard utility buckets are prone to bowing, lacks secure lids, and offer no accurate way to measure volume. This heavy-duty container is engineered specifically to meet the high standards of aquatic hobbyists and professional maintenance technicians alike.
Constructed from premium, food-grade high-density polyethylene (HDPE), this semi-translucent jug allows you to view the water level from across the room. Molded directly into the container's side panel are clear, easy-to-read graduated markers in both gallons and liters, making salt hydration calculations effortless and perfectly consistent. The top of the jug features a reinforced, integrated carrying handle that distributes weight perfectly when the jug is filled to its 5-gallon capacity. Additionally, the extra-wide threaded opening makes it easy to drop in standard small utility pumps or heaters to pre-mix and pre-heat your saltwater before carrying it to the display tank.
Built for Safety and Cleanliness
Equipped with a robust, gasket-sealed threaded lid, the CV-JUG5G prevents catastrophic splashes and slow leaks while in transit—saving your hardwood floors and carpet from highly corrosive marine saltwater. Its square, space-saving geometric footprint makes it incredibly easy to nest inside aquarium stands, slide into closets, or stack neatly during transport in service vehicles.
Note: This retail SKU contains (1) individual standalone CV-JUG5G 5-gallon container with (1) matching threaded gasket lid. Mixing pumps, tubing, and salt mixes are sold separately.
What’s Included:
(1) CoralVue 5-Gallon Semi-Translucent HDPE Jug Body

How to Mix Saltwater in the CV-JUG5G:
Thoroughly rinse the interior of the CV-JUG5G with pure RO/DI water before its first use to remove any factory transit dust. Do not use chemical soaps.
Fill the jug to the desired gallon mark on the graduated scale with pure RO/DI water.
Drop a small, clean submersible utility pump (such as a Sicce Micra or similar) down through the wide-mouth neck to establish vigorous internal water circulation.
Slowly pour your measured dry marine salt mix directly into the water stream. Pro-Tip: Always add salt to water, never water to dry salt, to prevent localized calcium precipitation.
If necessary, drop a small heater into the jug to warm the water to match your display aquarium`s temperature (typically 78°F / 25°C).
Let the solution mix until it is completely clear and the salinity matches your target level (typically 1.026 S.G. / 35 ppt).
Thread the gasket lid on tightly when transporting the jug to prevent spills.
Pro Tips:
- Always Mix Saltwater in a Dedicated Container.
CRITICAL REEF CHEMISTRY TIP: Never mix dry salt directly in your display aquarium. Raw, undissolved salt crystals can settle onto delicate coral polyps or the delicate gill membranes of fish, causing severe chemical burns. Using a dedicated mixing vessel like the CV-JUG5G guarantees your salt is 100% dissolved and aerated before it ever touches your livestock.
- Keep the Lid Threaded Tight to Prevent Salinity Creep. If you are storing pre-mixed saltwater or fresh RO/DI water for several days before a water change, always screw the gasket lid on firmly. If left uncapped, water will slowly evaporate out of the neck, causing the salinity of your pre-mixed saltwater to creep upward.
- Avoid High Heat and Direct Sunlight. While HDPE is highly resilient, storing water in direct sunlight can encourage localized nuisance algae spores to bloom inside the jug, particularly if there are trace nutrients present. Keep your storage jugs in a cool, dark cabinet or closet when not in use to maintain water purity.
