IceCap Dual DI Filter Canister Assembly (IC-DIDFC)
The IceCap Dual DI Filter Canister Assembly (SKU: IC-DIDFC) is an authentic, medical-grade water purification add-on block distributed by CoralVue to upgrade or repair existing aquarium Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems. Generating pristine, contaminant-free water is the absolute baseline requirement for maintaining demanding stony coral reef ecosystems or delicate planted tanks. While a standard RO membrane successfully strips away roughly 95% to 98% of incoming tap water tap impurities, trace levels of highly volatile ions—such as silicates, nitrates, and phosphates—frequently sneak past the barrier. If left unchecked, these residual compounds quickly build up in your aquarium, feeding aggressive nuisance hair algae blooms and obstructing coral calcification. The IC-DIDFC stops these breakthrough contaminants by providing two consecutive stages of targeted deionization polishing.
This pre-plumbed unit is constructed with two heavy-duty, high-impact clear canisters mounted to a rugged steel bracket. Because the housings are crystal clear, they remove all guesswork from water room maintenance: you can watch your color-changing mixed-bed, cationic, or anionic resins shift colors from the bottom to the top as they become exhausted. The top caps feature standard 1/4" push-connect elbow fittings, allowing you to slice this dual stage effortlessly into any existing RO system's product water line. By running your water through two consecutive canisters, you can fully exhaust the first cartridge until it is completely spent, while the second "backup" canister catches any trace bleed-through—guaranteeing a rock-solid 0 TDS output and keeping your top-off water completely pure.
Key Features
Visual Resin Tracking: Clear canisters remove the hassle of constant testing, allowing you to instantly spot channels or premature resin exhaustion from across the utility room.
Stops Algae Fuel Breakthrough: Serial dual-stage flow gives your water maximum contact time with the resin beads, effectively capturing stubborn silicates and phosphates.
Zero-Friction Plumbing Splice: Built-in 1/4-inch quick-connect fittings allow you to easily snap standard poly-tubing into the unit without needing separate wrenches or thread sealant tape.
(Note: This filtration item includes the pre-assembled dual clear canisters, top mounting bracket, and 1/4" push-connect fittings. Refillable DI cartridges and bulk color-changing resin are sold under separate product categories).

- Unbox your IC-DIDFC canister block. Secure the steel mounting bracket to your wall, water station frame, or RO system skid using appropriate mounting screws through the pre-drilled bracket holes.
- Unscrew both clear canister bodies using a standard 10-inch filter housing wrench. Ensure the black EPDM rubber O-rings are seated flat inside their top cap groove lines.
- Slide your pre-filled, refillable DI resin cartridges down into the clear canisters. Important: Make sure the rubber gasket end of your DI cartridge is facing upward to form a correct seal against the internal top cap node.
- Thread the clear canisters back onto the top caps by hand, turning clockwise. Once hand-tight, give them a final gentle 1/4-turn snug down using a housing wrench. Do not over-tighten, as this can crush the internal O-ring.
- Take the product water line coming out of your RO membrane housing and push it firmly into the 1/4" push-fit elbow fitting on the "Inlet" side of the bracket.
- Connect a fresh piece of 1/4" poly-tubing to the "Outlet" side of the bracket and route it directly into your clean water storage barrel or float valve array. Turn on your water supply slowly and check all joints for leaks.
Pro Tips:
- Use the "Daisy-Chain Rotation Method" to Save Money on DI Resin Refills. When your dual-canister system finally begins to exhaust, you will notice the color-changing resin in the first canister turn completely brown or blue, and your inline TDS meter will tick up from 0 to 1. Do not dump both canisters! Instead, throw away the exhausted resin inside the first canister only. Take the half-used second canister and move it to the first position, then place your freshly packed resin cartridge into the second position. This rotation method ensures you extract 100% of the usage capacity out of every ounce of resin without ever risking contaminant bleed-through into your storage tank.
- Always Grease Your Canister O-Rings with Pure Food-Grade Silicone Compound. Every time you open your clear canisters to swap out your DI resin, pull the black rubber O-rings out of the upper caps and wipe them down with a clean paper towel. Apply a tiny, thin smear of 100% food-grade silicone grease (never use petroleum jelly like Vaseline, which will rot and dissolve rubber seals over time) across the ring before reassembling. This keeps the rubber soft, prevents pinhole leaks under pressure shifts, and makes the canisters effortless to unscrew during your next maintenance cycle.
- Flush Your RO Membrane for 60 Seconds Prior to Letting Water Enter the DI Canister. Whenever an RO/DI system sits idle for a few days, a phenomenon called "TDS Creep" occurs. Static water sitting inside the membrane slowly equalizes, meaning that the first few ounces of water pushed through the line when the system clicks back on will hold a very high TDS spike (often 30+ PPM). If this initial burst rushes straight into your DI canisters, it will rapidly deplete your expensive resin. Installing a manual flush valve before your DI block allows you to dump that initial dirty water down the sink drain for a minute, protecting your DI stage and drastically extending your resin's lifespan.
