IceCap Medium Adjustable Skimmer Stand 9x7in — (IC-SRS-2318)
The IceCap Medium Adjustable Skimmer Stand (SKU: IC-SRS-2318) is an authentic, heavy-duty modular sump accessory distributed by CoralVue to simplify water level tuning in marine and freshwater filtration setups. Most modern in-sump protein skimmers require a very specific operational water depth—typically between 6 and 9 inches—to maintain the correct internal air-to-water pressure matrix. If your sump's filtration compartment runs deeper than your skimmer's target baseline, the internal column pressure spikes, causing the collection cup to overflow with clean water. The IceCap Medium Skimmer Stand solves this placement problem entirely, providing a solid, stable elevated platform to keep your skimming line right at the water surface.
Constructed from heavy-gauge, water-clear cell-cast acrylic, the Medium 9x7 stand avoids the structural collapse or micro-fracturing common with cheaper molded plastic shelves. By rotating or flipping the interlocking leg support paths, you can adjust the platform height across five distinct intervals: 3.0", 3.5", 3.75", 4.0", and 4.5". The stand also features an open, multi-slotted support plate that allows incoming water currents from your drain line to flow freely beneath the platform. This stops organic detritus, fish wastes, and decaying debris from settling into anaerobic bacterial muck traps beneath your heavy equipment.
Key Features
Prevents Unexpected Sump Flooding: Eliminates the primary cause of sudden protein skimmer overflows by adjusting your hardware straight into the manufacturer's recommended depth.
Absorbs Low-Frequency Pump Hum: Dense acrylic tracking isolates high-velocity needlewheel motor resonance, dampening low-frequency resonance against the glass sump panel.
Zero-Metal, Eco-Safe Assembly: Uses a hardware-free locking layout with no metal screws, springs, or metallic rods, eliminating rust risks in saltwater environments.
(Note: This retail box contains (1) 9" x 7" clear acrylic skimmer platform plate and (2) modular interlocking height adjustment leg panels. Protein skimmers, sumps, and silicone dampening mats are sold under separate product categories).

- Unbox the platform plate and leg panels. Remove any protective plastic masking film from the clear acrylic sheets before assembly.
- Review your protein skimmer's manual to find its recommended operating depth. Measure the current depth of your sump water chamber. Subtract the target skimmer depth from your sump water height to determine the necessary lift.
- Select your height on the leg panel tracking. For lower range increments (3.0" or 3.5"), orient the legs with the lower tab baseline pointing upward. For higher range elevations (3.75", 4.0", or 4.5"), flip the leg panels 180 degrees.
- Align the male tabs of the legs with the corresponding slotted receiver lines beneath the main 9x7 plate. Slide the parts together until they click into place.
- Lower the assembled stand into your sump partition, verifying it sits completely flat on the bottom glass panel without wobbling.
- Place your internal protein skimmer squarely onto the center of the stand platform. Re-verify that the skimmer's pump intake screen remains fully submerged beneath the water surface before starting up the motor.
Pro Tips:
- Always Re-Verify That the Sump Intake Chamber Does Not Run Dry. When using the maximum height extension on the IC-SRS-2318 stand, you are lifting the skimmer pump inlet higher in the sump water column. Ensure that your automated Auto Top-Off (ATO) water sensors are positioned properly. If evaporation drops the sump level lower than normal, a heavily elevated pump can pull air from the surface, causing the motor to run dry and overheat.
- Add a Dot of Silicone Adhesive Under the Feet for Ultra-Quiet Sumps. The thick cell-cast acrylic construction does a great job of suppressing motor resonance on its own. However, if your sump base has a slight manufacturing ripple, hard plastic sitting directly on glass can sometimes create an elusive micro-rattle. To ensure total silence, apply a small dot of aquarium-safe 100% silicone adhesive underneath the base edges of each leg pad, let it cure fully, and place it back in—the rubber feet act as an additional vibration isolation pad.
- Give the Under-Stand Area a Quick Blast with a Turkey Baster Weekly. While the open-slotted architecture of the 9x7 plate drastically improves water exchange compared to solid plastic blocks, heavy organic debris can still settle beneath the stand in slow-moving corners. During your weekly reef maintenance routine, use a simple aquarium siphon or a turkey baster to quickly blow water under the platform. This kicks up trapped solids so your mechanical filters or skimmer can export them before they break down.
