- Turn off your skimmer's pinwheel pump to let the active foam column settle inside the reaction neck before handling your collection parts.
- Carefully pull the entire clear collection cup assembly straight up out of the skimmer's main cylindrical body tube and set it down onto a clean towel.
- Lift away your old, warped, or cracked skimmer lid from the upper lip flange. Wipe down the inner container groove with a clean microfiber cloth to remove any built-up slime or grit.
- Take your fresh ROP-CCLID-BH90 replacement lid and inspect the edge tracks to confirm they are completely free of packaging film or dust.
- Place the new cover flat over the top opening of the collection cup, pressing it gently downward until the outer step drops securely within the rim line.
- Slide the collection cup back down into the skimmer neck, adjust the black rubber positioning ring to your desired skim line height, and turn the pump back on.
Pro Tips:
- Wipe Down the Inner Lid Face During Weekly Waste Emptying. When organic waste foam pops against the underside of this acrylic cover, it leaves behind a greasy film of concentrated proteins and fish oils. If this dark organic layer is left to dry on the plastic surface, it will begin to block the central air vent hole and create a noticeable odor under your tank. Make it a habit to quickly rinse the inside of the lid under warm tap water every time you empty your skimmate cup to keep air flowing freely and eliminate unwanted odors.
- Never Clean the Acrylic Cover with Alcohol-Based Sprays. When cleaning salt creep or dried scum off your new acrylic lid, never use ammonia-based glass cleaners, rubbing alcohol, or harsh household chemicals. Alcohol and commercial solvents trigger an immediate chemical reaction with cast acrylic called "crazing," which fills the clear plastic with thousands of microscopic fractures, instantly ruining its clarity and strength. Only use fresh water and a soft microfiber cloth to clean the surfaces safely.
- Watch the Vent Hole if You Use Carbonate Top-Off Media. If your aquarium system runs a high-output kalkwasser reactor or heavy buffer dosing lines near your skimmer's intake loop, fine mineral dust can occasionally migrate up through the collection neck. This vapor can form a hard calcium crust right around the lid's small central vent hole.
