Reef Octopus BioChurn 20T Commercial Biopellet Reactor
The Reef Octopus BioChurn 20T (SKU: OCT-BC20T) is a massive, commercial-grade external biological reactor designed to manage severe nutrient export requirements in large-scale systems up to 5,000 gallons. Developed specifically for public aquariums, multi-tank research installations, high-capacity fish facilities, and commercial aquaculture centers, the BC-20T tackles deep nitrate and phosphate accumulation via optimized solid carbon dosing. By fluidizing large volumes of biodegradable polymer solid carbon pellets, this industrial tower cultivates a massive, concentrated breeding ground for beneficial heterotrophic bacteria that strip dissolved inorganic nutrients right out of the water column.
The defining breakthrough of the BioChurn 20T is its specialized, patent-pending Power Churn matrix. In typical heavy-duty media reactors, suspending massive quantities of dense polymer media usually requires enormous, power-hungry pumps that subject the plumbing to extreme hydraulic force. The BC-20T avoids this with an internal churn plate that focuses incoming water into a powerful, spinning cyclone flow. This cyclonic action delivers uniform media suspension and completely eliminates media clumping or anaerobic dead zones while pulling a highly efficient performance from the Water Blaster 10000 recirculation pump. Outfitted with independent plumbing control valves, this industrial-grade tower gives water management professionals absolute mastery over biological filtration and fluidizing performance.
Key Features
Cyclonic Suspension Fluidization: Swirling motion keeps biopellets in constant motion, preventing the cementing and uneven channeling common in basic flat-bottom reactors.
Water Blaster 10000 Recirculation: Features an advanced neodymium magnet rotor assembly that draws 125 Watts while providing silent, ultra-dependable long-term performance.
Aggressive Nutrient Export: Cultivates massive microbial biofilms that pull nitrates and phosphates from the water column, easily exported down-stream via a high-capacity protein skimmer.
Immense Media Volume: Accommodates up to 15 Liters of biopellet media, providing vast biological surface area for heavy bioload configurations.
Pressure-Sealed Integrity: Constructed with heavy-wall union fittings and a thick, gasket-sealed top lid assembly ensuring 100% leak-proof external deployment.

WARRANTY
CoralVue, Inc. and Reef Octopus hereby guarantee this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:
- Five (5) year warranty on pump body/housing
- Three (3) year warranty on Reef Octopus-branded controller
- One (1) year warranty on Power Supply, Impeller (and components), Rotor, Rear Bushing, and Gaskets
Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Verify that all internal plates, the upper containment mesh screen, and the Water Blaster 10000 recirculation pump unions are firmly aligned and locked.
- Unfasten the heavy-duty top flange hardware and add up to 15 Liters of high-quality solid carbon biopellets (CoralVue BioSphere media is highly recommended).
- Re-seat the lid onto the top flange, verifying the primary sealing gasket is correctly seated, and secure the retaining screws down evenly.
- Plumb an external, controllable feed pump (capable of delivering 2,650–3,450 GPH) to the dedicated raw water inlet union.
- Turn on the external feed pump first to fill the 46.5-inch acrylic tower completely and push out any trapped air pockets before starting the recirculation pump.
- Plug the Water Blaster 10000 into a dedicated GFCI power source and adjust the independent control valves until the entire biopellet column is swirling in a gentle, uniform cyclonic motion.
Pro Tips:
- Direct Skimmer Integration. For peak nutrient removal efficiency, ensure that the effluent water coming out of the BioChurn 20T discharges directly into the intake line or chamber of a powerful protein skimmer. The skimmer will immediately catch and mechanically extract the bacteria-laden sludge shedding off the media before it can disperse back into the shared aquatic system.
- Staged Media Acclimation. When onlineing a large commercial biopellet system, never add the maximum volume of media all at once. Start with approximately 25-30% of the total target pellet volume. Allow 3 to 4 weeks for the initial bacterial colony to fully establish before gradually supplementing more media over time. This phased approach prevents a sudden bacterial bloom that can rapidly deplete dissolved oxygen levels.
- Nozzle Inspection Protocol. Over months of continuous execution, a thick biological slime (biofilm) will develop naturally inside the chamber walls and lower nozzles. During routine quarterly facility maintenance, verify that the lower churn plate nozzles remain free of heavy debris or lodged pellet media to guarantee the cyclonic spinning motion maintains peak operational efficiency.
