Carbon Source for Nutrient-Reducing Bacteria in Reef Aquariums

Fauna Marin Bacto Energy is a liquid carbon source that feeds nutrient-reducing bacteria in marine aquariums. It directly supports denitrifying bacteria and safely reduces nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate. It also reliably removes nitrogen compounds from the water.

The formula includes more than carbon. The ingredient list shows amino acids, vitamins, organic acids, and trace elements. Doses are small and based on your tank's nutrient level and stocking. Bacto Energy comes in 100 ml and 250 ml bottles.

Key Features:

  • Carbon source that feeds nutrient-reducing bacteria
  • Directly supports denitrifying bacteria
  • Safely reduces nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate levels
  • Reliable method for removing nitrogen compounds
  • Formula with amino acids, vitamins, organic acids, and trace elements
  • Small daily dose of 2 to 5 ml per 1000 liters (264 gal)
  • Sold in 100 ml and 250 ml bottles

Ideal For:

  • Reef keepers who want to lower nitrate and phosphate by feeding the bacteria in their system
  • Older tanks with high nutrient levels, using a lower starting dose after a phosphate reduction
  • Hobbyists who test their water often and are happy to adjust the dose in small steps

Pro Tips:

  • Start low and build slowly. Fauna Marin says to raise the dose by about 10% every 2 weeks. Check your water values each time before you go up.
  • Lower phosphate first in older tanks. If your tank is older and nutrients are high, Fauna Marin says to reduce phosphate with ULTRA PHOS first. Then start Bacto Energy at 75% of the normal dose.
  • Watch for slime. Slimy deposits on the glass and rocks mean the dose is too high. Cut the dose back.

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. Instructions*:

  1. Test your current water values before you start.
  2. Dose 2 to 5 ml per 1000 liters (264 gal) each day. Use a lower or higher amount based on your tank's nutrient content and stocking.
  3. For older tanks with high nutrient values, first reduce phosphate with ULTRA PHOS. Then reduce the Bacto Energy dose to 75%.
  4. Raise the dose by about 10% every 2 weeks. Always check your current water values before each increase.
  5. If slimy deposits appear on the glass or stones, the dose is too high. Lower it.
  6. Make all changes to the aquarium carefully.
Safety: Keep out of reach of children. Do not use on animals intended for food. Do not swallow or inhale.
