Reef Brite 12-Inch LumiLite PRO Plantlyte LED Strip Light
Illuminating a compact 12-inch nano or pico planted aquarium with standard gooseneck clamp lights or small spotlight fixtures often leads to uneven coverage, hot spots in the center, and dark perimeter edges where delicate stem plants begin to stretch and wither. The Reef Brite Lumi Lite PRO 12" Freshwater Aquarium Light - Plantlyte (SKU: RB-LLPRO12-PL) is the official OEM linear LED fixture engineered specifically for 12-Inch Nano Aquascapes, Desktop Freshwater Tanks, and Refugium Compartments.
Spanning 12 inches, the RB-LLPRO12-PL delivers seamless, edge-to-edge linear photon coverage across small footprints. Rather than relying on generic cool-white LEDs that can trigger nuisance green spot algae while flattening natural plant tones, Reef Brite’s proprietary Plantlyte spectral profile concentrates photon emission into the primary absorption bands of chlorophyll A (430nm and 662nm) and chlorophyll B (453nm and 642nm). This targeted delivery stimulates rapid cell division, tight internodal growth in stem plants, and rich coloration in red varieties such as Rotala, Ludwigia, and Cryptocoryne. Concurrently, a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) presents freshwater caridina/neocaridina shrimp, micro-rasboras, and river stone in natural, authentic visual detail. Housed in a black anodized extruded aircraft-grade aluminum chassis, the fixture acts as an integrated passive heatsink, operating completely silently and dissipating heat upward away from the water column to protect fragile nano water volumes from thermal spikes.
Ideal Application & Upgrade Scenarios
If you are scaping an ADA 30C (12-inch cube) or 5-gallon desktop planted tank, upgrading a small all-in-one desktop tank hood to high-efficiency LED technology, or seeking a focused, ultra-slim vegetative light bar for an in-sump freshwater planted refugium, the RB-LLPRO12-PL delivers high-efficiency photosynthetic output in a compact form factor.

Installation & Operating Guidelines:
Unbox the fixture and verify that the 12-inch aluminum housing, DC lead cord, and power adapter are undamaged.
Determine your preferred mounting method:
Tank Rim Mounting: Slide the adjustable stainless steel mounting legs into the side extrusion channels at both ends of the fixture and rest them securely on the aquarium rim.
Canopy Mounting: Fasten the fixture to the inner framework of your canopy or lid using mounting clips, ensuring the LED surface sits at least 2 to 4 inches above the water line.
Align the light strip so the diodes project directly downward across the entire length of the substrate.
Plug the low-voltage barrel connector from the fixture lead directly into the female plug of the included DC power supply (or connect via an optional inline dimmer/controller).
Establish a drip loop along the power cord below the electrical socket to prevent condensation or water droplets from running into the wall outlet.
Connect the power supply to an AC wall receptacle, digital lighting timer, or smart controller outlet.
Set an initial photoperiod of 6 hours daily, gradually increasing to 7–8 hours as plant biomass expands and nutrient uptake stabilizes.
Pro Tips:
- Prevent Algae in Small Water Volumes with Dimming Control. Because 12-inch nano tanks contain small water volumes (often 3 to 7 gallons), fluctuations in light intensity can accelerate green dust or hair algae much faster than in large displays. To prevent light stress on newly introduced plants, add a Reef Brite inline rotary dimmer or Bluetooth controller to reduce total output to 40%–50% during the initial three weeks of setup, gradually ramping up output as the plant carpet establishes.
- Maximize Flora Growth in Sump Refugiums. The compact 12-inch form factor makes the RB-LLPRO12-PL an exceptional light source for sumps housing freshwater macro-vegetation (such as Ceratophyllum demersum hornwort or Pistia stratiotes water lettuce). Its linear distribution blankets the entire chamber evenly without spilling harsh stray light into adjacent filter chambers or protein skimmer bodies.
