- Turn off the protein skimmer pump.
- Disconnect the existing airline tubing from the old silencer barb.
- Slide the old silencer out of its mounting bracket or remove the bracket from the skimmer body.
- Install the new 110-S silencer into the bracket.
- Reconnect the airline tubing to the barb on the bottom of the silencer.
- Ensure the top cap is clear of obstructions and restart the pump.
Pro Tips:
Clear the salt creep.
Over time, salt spray can crystallize inside the silencer, restricting air flow and causing the skimmer to overflow. Once a month, remove the top cap and rinse the silencer body with warm RO/DI water to dissolve any hidden buildup.
Check your airline tubing. When replacing the silencer, inspect your airline for kinks or stiffness. If the tubing is brown or brittle, replace it with fresh silicone airline to ensure the pump can pull its full rated 420 LPH of air.
Keep the silencer dry. While the skimmer body is submerged, the silencer should remain above the water line. If water enters the silencer, it will gurgle and significantly restrict air intake. Mount it as high as possible inside the sump area.
