Reef Octopus Pump Output Adapter - 32mm Slip Union (ROP-OA-32SLIP)
The Reef Octopus 32mm Slip Pump Output Adapter (SKU: ROP-OA-32SLIP) is an authentic factory-spec replacement plumbing component distributed by CoralVue to streamline hard-piped installations across your marine filtration system. Unlike alternative threaded output adapters that rely on male or female thread meshes, this "Slip" style adapter provides a completely smooth internal socket wall. It is engineered to form a permanent, high-strength welded bond directly with rigid 32mm metric PVC plumbing lines using standard aquarium-safe PVC solvent cement.
Over years of continuous aquatic system runtime, routine pump maintenance or changing sump layouts require uncoupling the primary plumbing manifold. If rigid piping systems are accidentally bumped, shifted, or dropped during a seasonal deep-clean, the rigid union shoulders can suffer invisible hairline stress fractures. Under active pressure from high-flow return pumps, those microscopic cracks will eventually split open, creating a continuous water leak inside your dry stand cabinet. Swapping out a compromised, glazed, or broken tailpiece with this original factory slip component fully reinforces your main plumbing lines, ensuring an ultra-secure connection to keep your equipment bay operating perfectly dry.
Key Features
True Factory Sizing Matrix: Machined with an exact 32mm metric internal slip profile to fit standard European metric rigid PVC pipes perfectly.
High-Density PVC Blend: Formulated from a robust, saltwater-inert polymer compound that effortlessly resists structural warping, salt creep, and ozone degradation.
Flat-Faced Compression Seating: Features a highly uniform sealing deck built to distribute holding pressure evenly against internal rubber gaskets.
Glue-Free Exterior Union Interface: Designed to slide directly underneath your native factory collar nuts, preserving easy toolless breakdown access.
Verified Hardware Compatibility
Reef Octopus Water Pumps & Skimmers: Fits the native discharge volute assemblies and union blocks of Reef Octopus pumps and protein skimmers featuring standard 32mm output union connections.
(Note: This adapter features a smooth, unthreaded 32mm SLIP internal connection. If your configuration requires metric threads, please look into the alternative 32mm Thick Threaded or Thin Threaded adapter profiles).
What’s Included:
(1) Reef Octopus Replacement 32mm Slip Pump Output Adapter Fitting
(Note: Threaded union locking nuts, rubber sealing O-rings, replacement pump volutes, and rigid metric PVC plumbing pipes are sold separately).
Technical Specs:
Official Manufacturing Title: Reef Octopus Pump Output Adapter (32mm Slip Variant)
SKU / Factory Part Identifier: ROP-OA-32SLIP
Connection Profile: 32mm Internal Metric Slip Socket (Solvent Weld Connection)
Material Matrix Composition: High-Impact Heavy-Wall Injection-Molded Gray PVC
Primary Function: Rigid Manifold Line Integration & Pressure-Tight Union Seating
- Turn off your pump controller and completely disconnect the main power grid from your filtration loop to stop all active water movement.
- Shut down all neighboring gate or ball valves along your plumbing manifold to isolate the water line and prevent back-siphoning.
- Unscrew the threaded union locking nut counter-clockwise on your pump volute to release the broken or cracked 32mm output piece.
- Clean the existing rubber O-ring gasket thoroughly with a damp towel to remove any trapped detritus, biofilm, or gritty salt crystals.
- Apply a light coating of clear PVC primer followed by PVC cement to the inside of the new slip socket and onto the end of your 32mm pipe.
- Press the pipe firmly into the ROP-OA-32SLIP socket, twist a quarter-turn to lock, hold for 30 seconds to dry, then reassemble and hand-tighten the union nut.
Pro Tips:
- Never Apply PVC Solvent Cement to the Sealing Face or Threads. When welding your rigid 32mm metric pipe into the internal slip socket of this adapter, apply the glue carefully. Never allow wet PVC cement or primer to drip or smear onto the outer flat compression face or the exterior lip where the union ring slides. PVC cement liquefies plastic to fuse it together; if it touches the flat sealing deck, it will permanently ruin the flat finish, making it impossible to sit flush against your rubber O-ring for a leak-free seal.
- Allow a Full 24-Hour Cure Period Before System Pressurization. Even though modern aquarium-grade PVC solvent cements can appear dry or hold static placement within just a few minutes, never run pressurized water through the newly glued slip adapter right away. The intense backpressure generated by high-performance return pumps can easily rupture a partially cured glue joint, creating a separation leak. For complete structural safety and chemical safety, let the bond cure completely for a full 24 hours before starting your pumps.
- Prevent O-Ring Pinching with Proper Alignment. When threading your union locking nut back over the new slip adapter, ensure your rigid PVC piping is aligned dead-straight with the pump output nozzle. If the plumbing lines are crooked or leaning to one side, tightening the union nut will put uneven pressure on the internal rubber O-ring gasket. This uneven load can cause the rubber ring to pinch, twist, or pop out of its track, resulting in a steady drip leak. Keeping lines straight ensures an effortless, leak-free compression seal.
