IceCap 10" Chloramine Reducing Carbon Block Pre-Filter (SKU: IP-RI-CT100C)

The IceCap Chloramine Reducing Carbon Block Filter (SKU: IP-RI-CT100C) is an authentic, medical-grade water purification cartridge distributed by CoralVue to provide specialized chemical extraction for modern reef aquariums and high-tech freshwater displays. Across many municipal networks, water treatment facilities have converted from using traditional free chlorine to a more stable disinfectant called chloramine (a chemical bond of chlorine and ammonia). Standard carbon blocks are inefficient at tackling this tough compound; they deplete rapidly and allow ammonia to bypass your pre-filtration stages, destroying thin-film composite (TFC) membranes. The IceCap Chloramine Buster cartridge addresses this challenge by utilizing advanced catalytic carbon processing to target and break these persistent bonds.

The structural matrix of the IP-RI-CT100C utilizes an extruded carbon core crafted with advanced pore spacing to maximize active chemical binding sites. When tap water travels through the high-density carbon wall, the catalytic surfaces split the chloramine molecules apart, absorbing the harsh chlorine component while preventing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), bad odors, and chemical residues from traveling deeper into your filtration sequence. Rated for a comprehensive 2,500-gallon service lifecycle under a maximum holding pressure threshold of 125 PSI, this universal drop-in replacement ensures your system outputs the absolute purest water base possible for sensitive corals and invertebrates.

    Key Features

    • Prevents Ammonia Breakthrough: Advanced catalytic absorption strips the ammonia component out of tap water, shielding your deionization (DI) resin from premature depletion.

    • Universal Drop-In Design: Fits seamlessly into standard 10-inch canisters, allowing you to quickly upgrade any basic 4-stage or 5-stage RO filter setup.

    • Maintains High Operational Flow Rates: Engineered to process water smoothly up to 0.75 GPM, giving you plenty of pure water production without dragging down line pressures.

    • (Note: This retail package includes (1) single replacement IceCap 10-inch Chloramine Reducing Carbon Block cartridge. Clear plastic housing canisters and filter wrenches are sold under separate product categories).

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.

    Instructions:

    1. Turn off your main cold-water supply feed valve leading into your RO/DI station. Open your flush valve or pure water line to drain out any remaining internal water pressure.
    2. Use a universal 10-inch filter canister wrench to unscrew your Stage 2 or Stage 3 carbon housing canister clockwise. Dump out the standing water and discard the exhausted filter block.
    3. Unbox your fresh IP-RI-CT100C block. Check that the black rubber washers are centered flat on both the top and bottom plastic end caps of the filter cartridge.
    4. Place the filter cartridge vertically into the clear canister base, making sure the lower center opening drops squarely over the alignment pin inside the bottom of the housing.
    5. Check that the large black O-ring inside your canister rim is clean and lubricated. Screw the canister body back into your main filter bracket hand-tight. Do not over-tighten, as this can pinch the rubber seal.
    6. The Critical Flushing Phase: Disconnect the line leading to your RO membrane input and route it to a utility bucket. Turn your water valve on slowly and flush the new carbon block for 10 to 15 minutes. This rinses out any fine black processing dust, preventing it from clogging your expensive RO membrane down the line.

    Pro Tips:

    • Always Flush New Carbon Blocks to a Drain Bucket Before Reconnecting Your RO Membrane. Whenever you install a brand-new carbon pre-filter, it will naturally shed a tiny cloud of fine black carbon dust when water first hits it. If this dust travels down your lines, it will coat the micro-pores of your sensitive Reverse Osmosis membrane, reducing your pure water production and lowering its performance. Taking 10 minutes to flush the output line directly into a bucket ensures your downstream stages stay safe and clean.
    • Pair with a High-Density 1-Micron Sediment Filter for Maximum Performance Life. To get the absolute most mileage out of your IP-RI-CT100C carbon block, always run a high-quality sediment filter right before it in Stage 1. Dirt, rust, and silt from municipal pipes can quickly coat the outside of your carbon block, clogging its pores and preventing it from absorbing chloramines. Running a tight sediment pre-filter catches these physical particles early, keeping the carbon block clear to focus purely on chemical removal.
    • Upgrade to a Dual-Carbon Serial Setup If Your Local Chloramine Levels Are Extremely High. If your city water report shows heavy chloramine levels (above 2 or 3 ppm), consider plumbing two separate IP-RI-CT100C filters back-to-back in your pre-filter stages. Running them in a series layout creates a highly effective "lead-lag" system. The first carbon filter takes the main chemical shock, while the second filter catches any remaining microscopic breakthrough, giving your RO membrane an ironclad layer of protection.
